I think he meant that the Playstation controller was just a SNES controller with extra shoulder buttons. Then later joysticks.
Ehh I saw it as pretty different. The d-pad was significantly different, the extra shoulder buttons changed how it felt in the hand, and there were handholds like on an N64 controller (but only 2 of them, since most of Sony's target audience didn't live near Chernobyl) But I suppose the point could be made that it was a natural progression.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed
Chronically out of date BST thread

The d-pad was only different because Nintendo owns the patent to the one they have xD.
Come on you can't say the extra shoulder buttons were an innovation. And I think there were controllers with handholds before it, but I'm not sure. What I do know is that the president of Sony liked the handholds on one of the prototypes cause he thought it would make it more comfortable to hold for older people.

The Jag controller has a spinner? That's kind of brilliant.

Not really. The spinner is only really used in Tempest and there is a market of people making them. Though usually they mount them in the DPad or B Button space. I have been meaning to grab one actually.

Was a joke, guy.

Now that y'all mention the mod, I remember that. I'm pretty sure GoatStore sold modded ones for a while. I think DSH picked one up for Tempest TR if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway, back to Steam controller. I think it looks pretty sucky. But I won't pass judgement until (A) I get to try using one and (B) the price is revealed. But at this juncture, it should cost me nothing as I really can't see myself paying it any mind.
