It is amazing! There are 800+ Cirterion Films on there - which is enough art films to last a lifetime - and it receives "new" Criterion films with some frequency. You really should check it out.

Let me know the model of the chair you need. I might get lucky and find one during a thrift shop outing.

(The magazine basket besides my toilet includes Game Informer, Arts & Crafts Home, Bon Apetit, and The Magazine Antiques, among others.) While I have been to only one rock concert in the past five years, I have seen six operas, and I subscribe to Hulu+ for unfettered access to its immense libary of Criterion Collection films. Finally - while I have favorite baseball, basketball, and baseball teams - the only sport I keep up with is collegiate rowing.
Game Informer should be in the toilet, not next to it. And Bon Apetit? Step up your game and subscribe to Cook's Illustrated*. We should have a snob-off: My last major purchase was a Henri Matisse signed lithograph. Snob-off!
That would look really nice next to my grandmother's Van Gogh.

Adn for the record, I've been to more ballets in the five years than rock concerts. But I've been to far more burlesque shows than both combined.

Although I have virtually everything I need for my kitchen, I purchase pieces of Descoware whenever I find them. Moreover - and in addition to my video game collection - I have a sizable collections of classic cookbooks. (My goal is to collect every book in the James Beard Foundation's Cookbook Hall of Fame, among others.) My last cookbook purchase was Philip Harben's Cookery Encyclopaedia. You probably haven't heard of it since it was only published in the U.K. - and it is a bit expensive for a 58-year-old cookbook - but I can assure you that the wisdom contained within its pages is well worth the price. Finally, I only subscribe to Bon Apetit because Gourmet - which was edited by Ruth Reichl (i.e., the greatest food writer of all time) - is no longer in print. Fortunately, many of Gourmet's writers migrated to Bon Apetit, and the publication's quality has improved immensely (although it still does not touch Gourmet).

.....

As a general rule, I think that American and Australian wines are entirely too sweet, and I will only drink them in extenuating circumstances. Oregon and Virginia are producing nice wines, but I still avoid pairing them with anything but hors d'oeuvres. (Let's be honest here...snob status is not confered by liking things; it is conferred by disliking them.)

.....

Finally - and as I have mentioned before - my wife deals in antiques, and she focuses on art pottery and American furniture and lighting from the "arts and crafts" era. We are pretty satisifed with our wall hangings at the moment, but we do move things around occassionally. We tend to commission pieces from contemporary artists, however, and - honestly - I generally leave those purchases to my wife. The last piece I purchased for myself, however, was a pencil-signed Toshi Yoshida woodblock print. (I keep a small collection of antique woodblock prints in my front room and bed room.)

I figure I should answer the question, and not just make a MST3k reference.

Over the years that term has changed in meaning. Like Jinx said, for a long time geek was an insult. However over the past few years it has become a trend. So geeks went from being the butt of a joke, to accepted. So while I the modern meaning of "serious fan of something" is not quite like the classic definition, it does apply to damn near everyone. Technically my grandmother is a geek since she has read all of John LeCarre and Agatha Cristie novels and watches Big Bang Theory.

As for myself, I do not like using the term. I am a geek in that I like a bevy of random things, and know quite a bit about the things I like. But I am not socially awkward, heck I ran a fandom convention for six years and am happily married.

Descoware

It's Snobberin' Time!

Descoware is what Dr.Huxtable used to cook with if I remember correctly. Grade A stuff for just about anything. Le creuset is pretty plush too.

Straight Snobbin!

What type of Kitchen-Aid do you own?
