Back on topic, OP mentioned a cave, which makes me think of Gravitar or Solar Jetman. These are not shmups, but they are games with spaceships in caves, and you do shoot.
Hey, OP, what system was this on?
Name of this game?

Edit: What about Thunder Cross? It's a cousin to Gradius but with lettered item drops.

Additional information:ExedExes wrote:Try this, oddly enough DocHauser had this in his obscure shmup thread. For your consideration -
Turtle Ship
- Horizontal
- 1988
- Static lettered power ups
- First stage is cave
- Shield has blue glow to ship (and it also has a timer as seen in the picture)
-The shield has no timer (it lasts until you get some hits - don't remember how many);
-The power ups are letters, and not symbols with letters on it;
-I've tried all games mentioned till now and none of them is the one I'm looking for.
Hope it helps.
Thank you very much guys for the help provided until now.

I think it's funny that you provide vague details, don't know the name of the game, yet between the Shmups forum and here, you've had 30+ titles offered up, and yet you know that all of these aren't it.

You guys don't have it yet? The one with the ship and the bullets - remember.
Re: Name of this game?
I don´t think it´s funny because I really checked each game was suggested and didn´t find the one I'm looking for. I´m really disappointed for not finding that game. I thought it would be easier than it is really being.foxhound1022 wrote:I think it's funny that you provide vague details, don't know the name of the game, yet between the Shmups forum and here, you've had 30+ titles offered up, and yet you know that all of these aren't it.
No one has to help me, but I really appreciate those who do it. Sorry if anyone is upset with that.

Re: Name of this game?
Here are the clues I have. I put it together so those who decide to help me can get it all in one same place.
- The game is a Horizontal Flying game with a spaceship (not robots or other thing that shoot);
- It is from late 80's (from 1986 on) and/or at most from 1990;
- I saw it in an arcade;
- There are static letters as power ups (the power ups are literally letters and not objects with letters in it);
- To get a power up you have to destroy some enemies that come in sequence in a clockwise (or conterclockwise - I don´t remember) movement;
- There are at least one stage in a cave, but I'm almost sure that all stages are in caves;
- There are not dinossaurs nor buildings in it;
- The shield is the part I best remember. It is like a blue/white, "D" shaped glow to ship (there are no shield at the rear part of the ship) and it lasts until you get some hits (it has no timer). I'm pretty sure that the shield is provided by the "P" power up letter, not by the "S".
Hope it helps.

Re: Name of this game?
I still think you need to check out Terra Force, as it matches your description (and you've not dismissed it as far as I can tell):
Have you actually played the game, or did you just see the demo play? If it was just the attract mode, it's possible that you never saw the vert stages.

yup, every other stage at least (I'm assuming you mean the player and not the enemies)robertbn wrote:- The game is a Horizontal Flying game with a spaceship (not robots or other thing that shoot);
