And did you read what I said?

The only good game I have ever found/gotten for the DS is that Super Mario 64 DS remake thing, but I bought it when I got my DS.

Meaning the games I have seen in front of my face at yard sales/flea markets/thrift stores.

I didn't say the only good game for the whole system, I know there are some ones I would like to try but I don't have access to them, unless I feel like paying top dollar on eBay and I don't.

I'd keep my pc for pc games, steam and emulators of pretty much every nintendo system nes-wii), MAME, Sega, Playstation 1&2 etc.

Would also have a Ps3 (don't actually have one IRL but would prefer it over the 360) and the Saturn because it apparently doesn't emulate very well, was considering the dreamcast but nearly every key title for it has been ported to other systems, all I'd really miss out on is Shenmue.

Saturn emulates fine on Windows (and I assume Linux as well), but I don't know of any console that emulates the Saturn well, hence my suggestion to keep an actual Saturn on hand.

Coming from a person who disses Fallout 1&2 and praises Fallout 3

Wii and DS have massive amounts of casual shovelware, but DS has some of the most hardcore RPGs of this console generation on it. There's a lot of good JRPGs (regular, dungeon crawler, strategy) on the system, many of which are more oldschool and challenging than the ones you'll find from modern consoles, and some good real time and turn based strategy games. The Wii also has its share of great and challenging games, like Donkey Kong Country Returns.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

The Wii has one of the strongest retrogamer-friendly libraries of any recent system. Aside from the obvious virtual console, it also has a boatload of amazing 2D games in various genres, new entries to classic franchises, compilations, light gun games, etc. I dislike waggle myself, but almost none of the games I play for the system require me to use it. If you like retro games and you've written off the system, you've done yourself a great disservice.

I'd say PS2, SNES, and Genesis. You can get NES and Game Boy compatibility with the SNES and Master System compatibility with the Genesis, and with the other Genesis add-ons you up to six systems with just those two consoles. A PS2 gives you not only one of the largest libraries of all time, but 99% of the excellent PS1 library, including, I believe, all the good RPGs and most, if not all, of the quality titles. If you must keep the Saturn, I'd say give up the PS2 or Genesis, especially since you have that nostalgic feeling for the NES.

I personally would cut down on the number of games I own and go for more consoles, with a tight library per console (pretty much do that already, but I could, I suppose, cut down further if I tired).

Sucks to hear your fiancée is so up in arms. If I took up a whole room, I'm sure my wife would also, but key to any long-term relationship is compromise.

I was happy. Then I saw Nintendo DS bashing and I turned sad.

And I'm the guy with the "SNES sucks and you suck for liking it Sega> Nintendo" thread

Yeah, the number of retro styled DS games that I've read about and am interesting in playing some day is actually rather staggering and overwhelming. There's a ton of good stuff on that system

I really like some of the Castlevania titles like Portrait of Ruin. Another great game is Little Red Riding Hood Zombie Barbeque....god, that's a long title to type out.

Right so to get back on topic.

I would keep:
NES
Saturn
SNES
I am assuming that you have a PC and that does not count as a console. If it does I would cycle out the SNES for the PC.

The reason being is that while you can emulate NES games on everything down to your phone, it is what alot of people associate with gaming. Also the games are just simply fun and easy to play. Saturn because emulation does work for it, but not to a level that I would consider acceptable enough to get rid of the console (and I love Segas mid to late 90s arcade games). SNES because of the bevy of amazing titles only on it, specifically JRPGs from my favorite era for them.

Now thats just me, and these are based atleast partially on how many titles I have for each (those are my biggest three console collections at over 300, over 200, and over 150 respectively). And while my wife enjoys gaming with me, I understand the compromise. We were talking about it and while I do enjoy many of the games I have on some of my other consoles, I really dont play them, so I am going to sell them to fund my PCB habit - which is an expensive one...

I am curious though, anyway we could get to see some pictures of your setup now? I am curious about your big toys and your records aswell.

It may have already been said, but I might suggest that you get a Racketboy chip in a Saturn or a Dreamcast that boots CD-Rs as one or two of your remaining consoles.

You can put your games in storage to prevent cracks on fragile cases (or sell a bunch of them) while only needing a large CD booklet to keep your playing copies. You'll have a huge variety of stuff to play on original hardware and it has the potential to drastically reduce your space requirements.
