Same with Mortal Kombat, MK gold on Dreamcast, MK Trilogy on the Saturn. Although MK 4, War Gods and Bio Freaks are all on my mental N64 list.

Actually I think every N64 fighter is on my list, even Xena. (mmm Gabrelle)

Rush 2 is N64 exclusive iirc. 2049 you might as well get on Dreamcast, though admittedly I never played that as much.

N64 has a few fighters that are pretty unique and interesting. Fighter's Destiny and Fighter Destiny 2 (yeah they dropped the 's in between sequels) are point based, which is pretty unique I think. Flying Dragon is a generic virtua fighter wannabe in its Virtual mode, but the SD mode is a surprisingly addicting game with RPGish character progression systems, equippable items you can purchase and unlock, etc.

Those are all cheap. Most non-Nintendo/Rareware games are. Even the Nintendo stuff isn't too bad though, and the only cart in the entire library that seems to ever break triple digit prices is Clay Fighter Sculptor's Cut.

But I wont take this trash talk about Cruisin' USA! I challenge you to Mortal Kombat!

We gonna use my cab? :P

Oh yes, that's right, I saw the pic of your MKII cab. NOW I REALLY HATE YOU!

Rakuga Kids is very high on the list. If the list on this site is complete, then getting every N64 fighter won't be too hard.

I've seen Conker go for quite a bit though. It's non negotable I HAVE to get Conker, even if there is an XBOX remake.

I've actually got a long term goal of nabbing up a complete n64 library. At 296 games, most of them being dirt cheap, it doesn't seem too hard.

I'll admit that my love for the N64 comes partially from nostalgia. I'm 23, the N64 wasn't the first console I had, but it was the first one I was actually following news and releases on. I had a Nintendo Power subscription back then, etc. Lots of memories of hyping up cool games and stuff, I still remember how excited I was when "Zelda Gaiden" was announced.

Killer Instinct Gold is pretty cool, but it doesn't have cinder!

and Conker is totally worth it imo

General:

- Better graphics
- Better framerate
- Usually bigger open worlds
- Very small load times with no load screen
- Didn't need a memory card for a lot of games in order to save
- Cartridges are rather durable and don't need delicate care
- Multiplayer games are usually better with the N64 since one does not require multitap, and more games were probably made for the n64 with 4 player in mind. At least amongst major releases

Games:
- Wrestling games are easily better on the n64.
- 3D Platformer, though PSX has a lot. I would say Super Mario 64 and Banjo are the best amongst that generation, at least from what I have played.
- Arcade racing, which I'd include kart racers and beatle adventure racing (minus the chitty soundtrack).
- Arcade Sports games such as NFL Blitz, Snowboard Kids, Mario Tennis and what not are done better for the n64 for the most part.
- FPS, due to Perfect Dark mainly.
- Action Adventure, due to Zelda.

Thats it for the most part.

N64 had a superb port of Bangai-O. If you can figure out imports, it is definitely worth it.

PS1 for RPG's, N64 for Platformers, and Saturn for Utter Excellence.

What did it do better? Platforming, FPS, and (generally) multiplayer games. Avoided the long loading times. Carts are generally more durable, although tend to be more difficult to find complete with box.

What did it do worse? Sports games (exception: wrestling), RPGs, mature single-player experiences. Costs were much higher back in the day, although not so much of an issue now. In-game music and sound effects. Much more limited number of games released.

N64 has a small library of games, but includes some real gems that shouldn't be missed. Just about all of the Rare games released on N64 deserve to be played, along with most of the first party games.

Games that I still consider "must play" titles today include the following classics:
- Zelda Ocarina of Time
- Zelda Majora's Mask
- Super Mario 64
- Banjo-Kazooie
- Banjo-Twoie
- Star Fox 64
- Star Wars Episode I: Podracer

There are a bunch of other games that I love (such as The New Tetris, Ogre Battle 64, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, BattleTanx 2, Super Smash Bros, Beetle Adventure Racing, and the various Star Wars games) but can't recommend universally.

N64 kicks ass. What's with all the haters?

Only 6th gen console without load times and the easiest/most affordable to collect games for. Amazing game library too. Hell, the Zelda titles alone make it worth owning.
