No, there hasn't been.

Tangentially related: I hate the politics surrounding shootings.

Liberals start preaching gun control. Conservatives claim arming more citizens would lessen the death toll. The media blames video games.

Every single time we have a tragedy like this, people just use it to grandstand. And it's getting old.
There's not really any "appropriate" time to bring up those kinds of issues.
First very sad and wrong for these people to die.

Now on the quotes, illegal gun trading exist (just like the drug trade) and will not go away. Even if guns are illegal the people who really want them will still get them. I will not go on a rant any further but if you want an illegal gun you just have to know where to look, trust me.

Yea I will probably get some negative views for saying that but its true.

As I see it, if someone decides to kill someone, they will do it. Whether they get an illegal gun, use a knife, blunt instruments, etc.

Again, I must say that this was a tragic event.

crazy people do crazy shit. no guns? bombs.

occasionally for work i need to photograph schools and set up equipment beside the school to monitor blasting. all i have to do is flash a business card and sign in and i get to do whatever and go where ever i want without any checking or anyone watching me. i have a 7 year old in 2nd grade and it's scary to think how little anybody can just get in. it's almost like schools need to be ran like prisons in order for kids to be safe nowadays.

You are right on the money. Look at Mexico. Gun restrictions are MUCH tighter than in the US, but people who want something more than a hunting rifle there are able to get what they want.

There have been school shootings in Canada before, and we here also have much tighter gun restrictions than the US. It is VERY difficult to get even a hunting rifle in Japan (the procedure to get licensed for one is lengthy). When I was living there, an evil and crazy person ran through Akihabara in Tokyo with a knife and killed multiple people.

So, if those who want their gun agenda pushed use this event to do so, I think it is very distasteful and is really a straw-man argument. Yet, I'm sure it will happen anyway. It's all completely sick.

What a terrible day for all involved. Love your children and those around you, if nothing else is learned from this.

It's definitely an awful thing...

I went to undergrad with someone who actually works as a music teacher in a different elementary school in Newtown, CT. Even though I don't live in Connecticut, it's close enough to "feel" close.

Sometimes on bad events like this, other shootings, gun control, bad events throughout the world and from what I have lived thru from iraq, the cold war, 9/11 desert storm, hurricanes, sunami's etc all the hate and evil.... If I only had one wish in the world or 1 wish i can grant in my life, I would wish for a real superman. It sounds funny but if there was a real superman he would stop alot of bad doings in the world. Just wishful thinking. I'm going to get laughed at thru what i just wrote but I am just sick and tired of all the hate in the world. These kids never deserved to die. All they were looking foward to was santa and christmas and now the parents have to see an empty christmas tree and an empty and lifeless christmas. I hope they do something now and never let this happen again

I just don't even know what to say. I never want to wish horrible things upon someone, but for taking young innocent lives, these people deserve to burn in hell.

I've been thinking about this disgusting stomach-turning event more than I'd like to admit, and I too am at a lack of words. Death would be too good for this vile bastard.

No amount of gun control can quell evil like this. It's a fucked up world we live in.

Perhaps someone should tell Hamas and Hezbolla that possesing explosives is illegal, and blowing up cafes full of innocent people is against the law. Crazy suicidal people tend to not give a shit about laws.
