Hell yeah. They should just release trade paperback editions of magazines, like they do comic books. Maybe not Cosmopolitan or People would work well for this format. But gaming magazines, movie magazines, music magazines, etc. would be perfect for this. I'm sure collectors would be all over it.

As awesome as that would be, I'd suspect it'd be a massive amount of legal hoops to jump through. They'd probably have to reacquire the rights to display the screenshots for every game in every issue, which gets more complicated as many of those companies died and their assets could be held by anyone (iirc either System Shock or System Shock 2's rights are owned by an insurance company).

Screenshots and such for review purposes are fair use. Now once you start getting to full maps of levels then it might be more like a guide and be a legal hassle.

Hell for me, when GameFan went under, that was when I primarily stuck to the internet for news. Magazines because an occasional thing for specials after that.

My family adopted the internet earlier than many (my dad grew up watching Star Trek and Star Wars, and just had to have internet access once it was affordable for him). I think we've had it nonstop since '95, so I've never in my life been reliant on gaming magazines. I've been using online-only resources since I started gaming, and I appear to be in the minority in that respect. I have zero nostalgia for any gaming magazine.

Now, if Gamefaqs, Gamespot, or IGN were to go under, that'd really hit me. I imagine in a decade or so we'll have threads like this, except for old websites instead, and I'll be one of you.

I've been on the net since '94 and gaming news wasn't good online until 99 or 2000. The Magic Box was awesome back in the day before news from Japan was commonly available.

Many of us are older than that, even, though. The only internet around when I was young was the Commodore 64 net that rich people had, which had no modern World Wide Web anyways. Gaming magazines were without a doubt the most reliable source of gaming information out there for us. Other than that we had a small handful of commercials and word of mouth.
