Scummy Retro Game Store Practices
Re: Scummy Retro Game Store Practices
I went to two outdoor shops and I hate how they price games in stores, I saw loose copy of mario rpg $50,snes zelda $20. Conker n64 $40 outrages price. He double priced most games. I hate when they don't label the prices at all.

Well chain as in (as far as I know) they have two stores. Maybe they have more in other cities but I've never heard of any. All I know is the store has gone through an ownership change at least once in the past 5 years and whoever owns it now has allowed the store to slip.Breetai wrote:Aren't they a chain of stores in Edmonton, or am I thinking of something else? Believe it or not, I used to work at Londonderry Save-On foods. I lived in Edmonton for 5 years about a decade ago.Ramminchuck wrote:The store is Game City in Londonderry Mall. Edmonton Alberta. I'll post it in that thread too I guess.
I remember that game store on 118th, not far from NAIT, often had some imports. It was the only place that regularly had any TG-16/PC Engine stuff.
Also I plan to check out that store on 118th. Nexwave I believe it's called. If one good thing came out of this it's me finding out about two more stores in my city that carry retro stuff. There is Nexwave and then another store just on Whyte Ave. Both more or less on my route home from work so I'll be checking them out monday.

My local retro game store had a legit copy of Earthbound for $150. Although SNES repros usually cost more than NES ones, I wouldn't pay more than $60 for an Earthbound reproduction.Ramminchuck wrote:I am a little worried about that too as there was an Earthbound cart there priced at $250. Hopefully if I can talk to the owner I can get them to properly identify what carts are reproductions.AppleQueso wrote:my main worry would be that if they're willing to pass off unreleased repros as official carts, they're probably selling repros of especially valuable games (Earthbound, for example) and trying to pass them off as real carts as well.

Mega Media eXchange, at least my local one, has an awesome disc cleaning/resurfacing machine. Every disc you buy gets cleaned and they all look brand new. No swirling at all, either.

The game label had 2 different art work pics on it one from nes castlevania the other was from sotn .Quiet Flight wrote:Not sure what you mean, what was wrong with the game?cookie monster wrote:I know a shop like that near me in pa. This jackass got me for a snes dracula x when i first started collecting. When i tried to return it he said it wasn't his problem so i very kindly explained to him that he could do one of two things refund my cash or get me the correct game. He figured since i was a girl he could bully me into leaving with the fake game. He was wrong i explained to him that i will get a refund or the legit copy he had or i was gonna pull his ass across the counter and beat him like a pinata. I left with the legit game. He ended up selling the fake to another kid i knew for like 80.00 That kid threatened to call the cops on him to get his money back. This guy still does this shady shit and trys to sell repro carts on craigslist as rare legit games.

Each one of those is about how much they go for on ebay so that isn't very outrageous. Also Conker even goes for more than that on ebay so I guess that's kind of a deal.benderx wrote:I went to two outdoor shops and I hate how they price games in stores, I saw loose copy of mario rpg $50,snes zelda $20. Yeah I was about to say that those are actually pretty normal prices.Flekshin wrote:Each one of those is about how much they go for on ebay so that isn't very outrageous.
