It's not as powerful as an xbox 720, but so what? When did hardcore gaming get defined as the most graphically powerful? Nobody is calling the sega genesis or the nes or the playstation casual, but this thing could handle any game that showed up on those systems. Who do you think has invested over 4 million dollars into this thing? It certainly isn't a group of moms who play words with friends on their iphone.

All this is not to say that it will be a raging success, or even get manufactured. But if it does, it could be awesome.
Exactly. hardcore gamers are one that should not care just about graphics but gameplay first. Modern "Hardcore" gamers that only care about graphic power are graphics hors, not true gamers.
System power is more than just graphics

Ok, yes. Then I change my response to hardcore gaming is not just the latest graphics, intelligent AI, physics processing, etc. My point still stands, just because it is not the latest tech doesn't mean it is for "casual" gamers. I would say that pretty much everyone on this forum would be classified in the hardcore camp, yet most of us prefer old technology.

So another Pandora then, this piece of crap will be forgotten soon enough.
I see absolutedly no similarities between the Pandora, and this console other than both being open consoles. It's also weird to compare it to the Pandora, which the only issues it had was a troubled production, something that doesn't apply to the Ouya.

And as far as I know, nothing has come close to the Pandora yet, so if you really think there are better alternatives for handheld emulation please tell before I decide to buy one.

And being frank, that article is the worst steaming pile of crap I have read in a good while. Including such powerful complains such an "absence of exclusives" and complaining about the controller being called "the Stradivarius of controllers" instead of "the Stradivari of controllers", which is so beyong nitpicking and stupid that it mortally wounded my hope for any standards in this pour soul. Whatever point the writer had it was lost among the sea of fake outrage and silly, coloquial comparisons that can't disguise an article that should fit in less than two hundred words.

Anyways the value of this console rests on emulators and other typical open source programs which seems pretty fair to me but it has an uphill battle against actual hardware, PCs and other tabletop computers and handhelds with the increasingly common tv out cable.

There was a similar Op-ed on 1up with similar arguments. Now, this is exactly the sort of thing Kickstarter is intended for. But I think people are getting pie in the sky dreams way too early.

I just realized this, but I don't believe there exists a picture of the left half of the Ouya controller. :P

I'm looking at this system, then looking at my Android phone. I already have the phone, its portable, and cost less than $99. It texts and calls too.

Not that Indie games are "bad" but i just dont look at them like some people do, i guess some Indie games just dont ever live to see a sequel and are "usually" short games just, but when i think of the Android platform thats what i think of, just games to pass the time quick when your on a bus, or in between something. Like most people who play games on there phones they arent like "OMG IM BEING SUPER HARDCORE ON MY SMART PHONE, HOLD ON A MINUTE IM IN THE MIDDLE OF A HUGE EPIC BATTLE"

I still stand that this console if it isnt some huge hoax gone wrong, is still going to be a casual thing, i would never use it over my PC or a more dedicated gaming console.
