so Redux Dark Matters is out later this month. I think I'm gonna get it. As much as I complained about Dux, I've watched some vidoes that HuCast put up of Redux and it really does look pretty impressive. Anyone else have any thoughts on it now that the release if finally upon us?

I'm just stoked that it's finally coming! I backed the LE on Kickstarter a very long time ago, and for a while it seemed like it might not ever come, but I can't wait to sit down at my DC and give it a play!

Now if only I had a better arcade stick for my DC!

Gotta get yourself an Ascii stick. I've been playing Sturmwind on it during breaks. Guess I'll have to push that over for some Dux 1.5 and Redux. Is Dux 1.5 worth opening and playing? Anyone have it?

Not to derail the topic too much, but just how good is Sturmwind? Out of all the Dreamcast indie releases, that and the upcoming Project Y have been the most appealing to me. Although I've only played a couple of European shmups that I enjoy, and the price tag is pretty high to take a gamble on.

Sturmwind is really, really good. This is what I said about it in my post about Top 10 games of 2013 (of which it was one of the ten)...
The novelty of new games appearing on old consoles is always fun. But as is the nature of novelty, it can also soon wear off. What makes Sturmwind so special is that it’s not just a great shoot-em-up, it also pushes the Dreamcast to the absolute threshold of its capabilities and proves that to a certain degree this failed hardware from 1999 could still make brilliant 2D arcade games worthy of competing with the current generation. The appearance of Sturmwind is incredible - and viewed through the DC’s VGA output rivals any indie shmup released this year on more competent technology. The art-direction itself is fantastic, with brightly colored bullets, insanely detailed backgrounds, and memorable boss battles. Even the power-up system was an interesting take on an old formula. Add to this a bevy of extras from online leaderboards, to unlockable ‘achievements’ and even the capability to save replays to a 3rd party SD card adapter and you’ve got a serious argument that the true death-year of the Dreamcast is still anyone’s guess.

Hey, hey! Steal-case LE shipments are delayed! It's the kickstarter that just keeps on giving.

Not really. Now the Vietnam War was a huge clusterfuck. Bay of Pigs Invasion was a huge clusterfuck. Napoleon's invasion of Russia was a huge clusterfuck. This is just a game being delayed.

Ok, so we can agree that this is somewhere in the middle then.

What's irritating is that part of why I backed this for $100, despite not liking Dux very much, is because I wanted to have a chance to enjoy the soundtrack, Dux 1.5, and the new game as soon as they were available. It just sucks that so many of the people that gave them the most support are having to wait the longest to enjoy any of it.

On top of that, even though they made more than 2X their goal, they have asked for extra shipping to ensure tracking/delivery (and not provided tracking numbers anyway from what I've read), have offered several new release dates along the way (all of which were missed), have offered very few updates throughout, and have generally offered pretty poor customer service.

Now, that reviews are coming out, it sounds like the production is cheap and that they were using bull shots to advertise the game: http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtop ... 89#p949241

Just everything about the experience leaves an unpleasant taste in my mouth, and I am not going to be able to sit down and enjoy the game with the same anticipation and excitement as I would have if they had been more forthcoming. The delays aren't the problem per se, but all the shit surrounding it is irritating as fuck.

S'not good. Feels like they've just been trying to avoid communicating with the backers. I'll be damned if I'm giving them another 4 euros for tracking, that's for sure. (That was a nice email they sneaked in there after everything.)

Should'a gotten Sturmwind instead— :?
