Are these region specific, though?
It seems like the only RGB cables out there are the PAL scart and the NTSC-J RGB cables, so wouldn't you need to get one of the NTSC-J cables for an NA unit, etc?
What I've read of Ebay listings seems to suggest this, anyway.

I'm looking for a Saturn s-vid cable if anybody has one up for sale. Just thought I'd put that out there.

UK SCART and JPN SCART are the same connector but different pin numbers. Both cables would hook to a NA saturn, however, you'd need to know which SCART pinout your converter is expecting. XRGBs for example will expect a JPN pinout.

Aha.
Sorry to jump this topic from s-video to SCART briefly, but I've been looking into this kind of set-up recently.

Would it be safe to assume that a converter such as this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XS ... 01_s00_i00

would accept either SCART input, considering the product description's list of video signals, or is that more in relation to the component out?

Also, is there any trickiness with PAL 50/60 hz business and these converters on an NTSC TV?

almost every (No. EVERY), thread i see about someone wanting to do an Svideo mod quickly goes to a "just do an RGB mod / get an SCART" thread. hard to stay on topic in a saturn Svideo post.

Phizzler's law: As the length of a Saturn s-video related thread increases, the probability of someone suggesting RGB SCART approaches 1.

While in Paris (which has a massive import / retro scene with 5+ stores next to one another) I finally got hold of a S-Video cable! Can't wait to get home and try it out.

Also got Afterburner for my SC3000H, lots of Sega love!

Of course. The matter of cost effectiveness. When lower quality approaches prices of a better option, it ever slowly begins losing purpose.

I made the jump to SCART / RGB to a PVM myself. No regrets.

I still contend that for most people that want s-video, they may as well just have someone add an s-video jack to the back of the console. It can be cheaper than the cable (it's definitely cheaper if you can solder yourself), and if you lose or damage the s-video cable you can replace it with one from the thrift shop instead of buying another elusive cable.

Well let's just think for a second. Let's assume the person doesn't know any one in driving distance that can install the jacks for them, and they have to ship it out to some one. Let's say shipping is a modest $10 each way, and let's round up and say $25 total shipping cost. Figure the parts are like $5, that's $30. And obviously you would have to pay some one a little something for their time, so let's double it and say $60.

Weren't the cables going for about that price or more? I don't really know how high the price got, since I was never interested in paying more than $10 or 15 for them.

But let's say that the cables are $60 and for the same price you can pay some one to install the jacks for you... install the jacks without a doubt. Aside from what skate said, with standard jacks on the back of the console you'll be able to use your choice of cables. 99% of AV cables sold these days for retro consoles are 100% pure cheap garbage cables. So you'd be much better off.

Or perhaps you could trade for the service, and then it would only cost you $30 to get it done.
