that's basically what this method does. It's just not a quick simple thing.

lol wonder why not its easy peasy bridging a laptop wireless to the ethernet..... different protocol in a dial up modem perhaps?

@korn, yeah I think it's just more complicated because yr not meant to bridge dialup lines with broadband lines -- you have to sort of trick the dialup line into thinking it's getting a dialtone (or something. I don't really know).

ANYWAY

I'm switching to an alternate guide: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtop ... f=3&t=2427

the other guide was well written, but I hit a snag in Crunchbang Linux where the guide told me to make a file that the Linux environment wouldn't let me write for some reason. No idea since I'm a Linux n00b.

This other wallkthrough has you use XUbuntu -- which is nice since my limited Linux experience has been with Ubuntu. So we will see how it goes. Wish me luck. And again, I'll keep yall posted as hopefully I can get it up and running and then help the rest of you that are interested join me.

update... well a year later I spent 2 hrs tonight attempting to setup my own PC-DC server. I followed the directions from Dreamcast-Scene.com and used a few other scattered guides, forums and linux sites to troubleshoot and things eventually seemed to be setup right. And yet... no connection. Sigh. I'll try again some other night with fresh eyes/brain. But I'm bummed I put so much time and energy into it tonight and got nowhere.

Have you seen this method:
http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtop ... f=3&t=3122

Looks much easier than the PC-DC server (which I have thought about setting up, but looks way complicated) and can be cheaper/ around the same cost as a BBA, but with more game support.

I have seen that jay, but its expensive enough that I might as well just get a bba. Yknow? I don't really see myself spending the money on the various parts needed -- and investing more time into try to get it to work on -- on another complicated (for me) method. Maybe someday I'll find a BBA at a yard sale hahahaha.

I'm surprised nobody has reverse engineered the BBA yet. Anybody care to lend me one?

thanks dood.

It's obviously tempting to buy one, but at the same time it's a pretty hefty price for what? Seven games?

I'm seeing them go for around $150 on the 'bay lately. As tempting as it is to play some PSO, etc... there's a lot of other stuff I could get more use out for the $150. Especially if I could eventually get this stupid PC-DC server working for no additional cost.
