Have you played XCOM? It has like 30 more buttons than it's really necessary. Really, there's no need for independent "crouch" and "get up" buttons.Yancakes wrote:THAT BEING SAID, something that has gotten better over the years BECAUSE graphical capabilities of consoles (and PCs) have improved is INTERFACE. Interfaces, HUD's and whatnot in video games have gotten so much better and made games so much more playable that it's unreal.
Why did graphics become so important in gaming?

I agree, some games really overcomplicate stuff. I was playing ArmA II a few days ago (I know it's a sim but come on, the only thing it's missing is a "Pee on a tree" command) and after I accidentally pressed U my character became a statue, I couldn't move or look sideways, WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT THAT?!General_Norris wrote:Have you played XCOM? I greatly enjoyed XCOM while I played it, but the interface was one of the biggest issues for me...at this point I'm so used to hovering a mouse over a button and getting a popup to see what it does, or the dozen or so information screens that are present in XCOM just being in one overview screen so you require much, MUCH less digging around to find the things that you need.General_Norris wrote:Have you played XCOM? Are we all talking about the same X-COM? The original TBS had several buttons, none of which had hover text, which kinda sucked, but most of them had good icons. And you had a crouch/get up button, and you didn't need to use it to get up if you were going to move, and it was a unified button.Yancakes wrote:I greatly enjoyed XCOM while I played it, but the interface was one of the biggest issues for me...at this point I'm so used to hovering a mouse over a button and getting a popup to see what it does, or the dozen or so information screens that are present in XCOM just being in one overview screen so you require much, MUCH less digging around to find the things that you need.General_Norris wrote:Have you played XCOM?
