1985. The year I got my Famicom. I couldn't buy games for it locally but it came with a enough games to keep me busy for a while.

Ugh, I know what you mean. Living around the Owensville, MO area before 2005 was bad news if you were a gamer. The only games that could be bought locally were budget PC games and yearly sports titles. Game stores seem to be a lot more widespread these days.

Haha, I had the damn Pacific Ocean blocking me from accessing a game store. I just had to wait til my parents or a relative to travel to Asia to pick up more games for me.

I could name a lot of years, one that always stands out for me was 1998. I was a PC gamer at the time and with Half-Life and StarCraft, the PC was king.

I'm going with 1999 because of the Dreamcast coming out (NFL 2K, Soul Caliber, Crazy Taxi, R2R at launch were just awesome), Playstation hitting its groove with sports titles, and the Nintendo64 getting the WWF THQ games.
