I played the fan-lated SFami version; any reason to recommend the GBA (officially translated) version?

Nah, worse music and graphics, I think in this case the SNES version is definitely a lot better.

@Veno: Definitely check it out. It's funny to say I honestly don't like MM7 at all, level and art design wise, and even though MM&B is kind of in the same style graphically... the game just hits better notes with me or something. It's infinitely better in my book. MM8 isn't bad but the levels are pretty slow and puzzle based. I'd say flamepanther is spot on with MM&B though, aside from the art style the game definitely plays a lot more like the classic MM games than MM7 and MM8 do. Bass is really fun to play as and feels a lot like the control in the MMX games, with has dashing and the double jump. His buster is pretty weak though to give him a little handicap.

The level design in MM7 was mostly the same as MM4-6, except that it's constrained by the gigantic sprites. That forced the designers to keep the screen layouts either more simple or more crowded, much like the Game Boy games had to do. Some people seem really put off by this, but being a fan of the Game Boy titles, I really had no problem with it.

Cue my biggest issue with MM7. :P

The physics and slowness of the buster shots didn't help either.

The thing is MM&B had bigger sprites as well, but yeah... I just liked the game a lot more.

Bigger, yes, but not as big, and not in the same way. The character sprites in MM&B (which are mostly just the sprites from MM8) imply a smaller body mass in proportion to the area of the screen they use--it's a trick of the isomorphic slightly-from-above perspective they're using. This lets the artists get in more visual detail while still allowing the designers more usable space to design the screen layouts.

I didn't even need to double check that to believe you, but yeah I googled and can definitely see the difference. But yeah, all I remember is the "feel" of MM7 was horrible when that was never an issue at all with MM&B.

Also just to backup what I said earlier about MM&B being regarded as "MM9" for the longest time, according to wiki it came out 2 years after MM8 was released on the PSX in 1996, MM&B came out in 1998. Damn, that is a late SNES title, lol.

Not to derail the thread a second time, but I think it's a shame Capcom didn't go with the MM8 art style for Mega Man 10. It was cute having MM9 go back to using the NES sprites for the anniversary, but once that was over with there was no need for it. It just seems wrong to me that MM8 looks better than MM10.

To be Quite Honest... I was kinda hoping they'd go for a MMX art-style for a classic Mega Man game.

You know. Just for laughs.

MM8 and MM X 4 already have more or less the same art style.
