Thank God 2D is making (some what) of a comeback. We got a lot of great 2D console games this generation. I hope it's a trend that now only continues, but grows.

I was relatively fresh out of college and my brother got me a Sega Genesis for Christmas. So my only memories were from comparing the Genesis to the SNES and intensely hating Nintendo. Not sure why. Fast forward to now, I still don't have an SNES console but have played a few games on the PSP/xbox using emulator. I do have a great appreciation for the SNES library which is definitely one of the greatest of all consoles.

Many things being bastardized in 3D, somebody should try to make some more 2.5D games like the bonus stage to Sonic CD was awesome

I wish sprite-based 16-bit 2D would make a comeback, but I don't miss 2.5D Mode 7 type graphics at all. That stuff looked dumb, and it was hard to accurately judge distances.

I remember us getting a Super Nintendo around 2nd grade (the 1991-1992 school year). There was this one guy in class who had one, bringing manuals from Super Mario World and a few other games for people to check out. And then I remember a trip to the mall, there was an SNES set up at Software Etc., so naturally I had to play it.
Fast forward to somewhere around that time, and we finally bought one at a Toys R Us store in Leesburg, VA. We spent many good times playing the Super Nintendo. After Super Street Fighter II came out, me and my brother would battle it out for the "championship", which he held onto for a very long time.
While he would pick awesome games like Final Fantasy III & Chrono Trigger for Christmas, I was stuck in my fighting game phase, and got Mortal Kombat II & III in consecutive years.
I would continue to play SNES games, even when people in my 8th grade classes had Nintendo 64's and Playstations.
Still play the SNES today, although on my FC Twin that I bought a couple of years ago from EStarland after needing a repair. Some of my faves include Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Zelda III, and Earthbound.

1. Super Mario RPG 2. Kirby's Dreamland 3 3. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 4. Earthbound 5. Kirby Superstar 6. Seiken Densetsu 3 7. Pop'n TwinBee 8. Final Fantasy V 9. Super Mario World (I love this game but I am horrible at these games) 10. Harvest Moon
Here's my attempt at a top 10, although I've likely missed a whole ton I love and will regret missing them out
1. Starfox/Super Metroid 2. Starfox/Super Metroid (I can never decide which is my favourite SNES game :p) 3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 4. Super Punch-Out!! 5. Donkey Kong Country 3 6. Yoshi's Island 7. Wild Guns 8. Super Mario Kart 9. Super Mario World 10. Kirby's Dreamland 3
I need to play more SNES games though, I've probably only played through about 20ish total. A great system for sure, either way.
