This game is pretty awesome. Hard as hell, too.

I don't know about this one. Some reviews I've read aren't too enthusiastic about it and I heard them mention it on a gaming podcast where they said it was a very annoying game to play.
Is there a demo available for this? I'd like to at least give it a fair shot

There's a demo. Personally I like it, but it requires you to use all the tools at your disposal; you can't just mindlessly smash your way through.

Re: New Bloodrayne (Metroidvania style)
I think it is reviewing pretty well. Most reviewers seem to enjoy the game, giving strong caution to anyone who is frustrated easily. When the game does review poorly, the reviewer is usually whining about the difficulty.Gamerforlife wrote:I don't know about this one. The game can be pretty ruthless. I play action platformers pretty regularly, but Betrayal put me in my place. Depressingly so. Rayne looses her head, erupts geysers of blood and gets chopped to bits when her health runs out.
Then I remembered one of the WayForward guys in an E3 interview mentioning Ninja Gaiden over and over again. He wasn't talking about 8 bit Ninja Gaiden, either.
The best way I can describe this game is - linear Castlevania levels with Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma gameplay in 2D. Rayne herself moves and attacks much like she did in Bloodrayne 2. The key to survival is finding those precious few invincibility frames and knockback moves and strings that will put the enemies on the ground before they can get a shot off.
It's a hell of a lot of fun on an 8 button arcade stick.

Reviewing well?
5 out of 10 from Gamesradar
6.5 out of 10 from Xbox magazine
6 out of 10 from Official Playstation Magazine US
Some of the nicer scores are still pretty modest
B+ from 1UP
7 from Game Informer
Yeeeah, it's not doing that great critically. I'm fine with it being difficult, but a lot of the stuff being pointed out in reviews just sounds like cheap, stupid crap. I'll try the demo though as I don't take reviews as gospel but I'm not so enthused anymore

The 1up reviewer had a lot of good things to say about it if you actually read the review.
I wouldn't expect the game to review well with dedicated Xbox or Playstation mags. Let's face it: It's not call of duty.
I'm not going to get into a review score war. The demo is out and free, try it for yourself.

Yeah, I read the IGN and joystiq reviews and boy you talk about drinking the cool aid. They just read like something they got paid to write and don't really seem to cover the game in depth. You're right though, everybody has to play it and make their own choice and maybe I'll end up agreeing with youwip3outguy7 wrote:4.5 out of 5 on JoystiqGamerforlife wrote:Reviewing well?

After playing Odin Sphere there is no combat system that could be any more bullshit, so my tolerance is extremely high for things like being locked in to an animation.

I think the game looks pretty sweet. The art style is amazing, the combat looks flashy, and Rayne looks hot.
I actually pay attention to Gamesradar's reviews though because 85% of the time I agree with them. However, this review in particular was done by Matt Keast and I usually don't agree with him in specific. So, yeah. Gonna have to try the demo. :/
