Nono, its all about the bowties. Easy to tie, or get a tuxedo one that is pre-tied, and it is an in to most any conversation or location. I agree with Inazuma on straight ties, they are horrid pieces of cloth that should never exist. Bowties on the other hand are cool.

Not everyone who wears a tie is a mindless sheep. Many of them are taking advantage of mindless sheep. Stupid people find fancy clothes impressive, and there are a lot of stupid people out there. Dressing up gives you an advantage, why not take it?

Put another way, the suit and tie are the gang colors for the most powerful (and dangerous) gang in the world. Putting on those colors is not something people do just because. They do it because they want to be associated with that power. Whether it's right or wrong it's not necessarily a mindless act.

That's a good point but it still means you have to wear expensive and uncomfortable clothes. And while it does work on stupid people, if you come across someone who can think for himself, like me, I will think less of you for wearing those fancy clothes. If you wore fancy clothes specifically for me to see them, I will be insulted because you think I'm one of the stupid people. >_>

That's all well and good, but you're so overwhelming in the minority on this that adhering to that train of thought (being worried that someone might feel insulted because you're trying to "impress" them with some social niceties) would make very little sense. It is much more logical to assume the opposite.
