That is indeed, exactly what the guy did.kenshin-dono wrote:I second that.. WHAT?? Can you explain that a bit more? Wtf happened? Are you saying you bought a new game, he took it out, said awesome, opened it and played it right in front of you?? wtf? I dont even buy guts. I cant count the number of times ive gone to buy a new game in the past when i actually shopped there and they would just go and grab the gut and start packaging it. WHen i ask if they have a REAL new copy they get all confused or upset and claim that those are brand new..Opa Opa wrote:Wait...What?!?!?!Ryvius wrote:I haven't cared to shop at Gamestop in years, so no big deal to me.
I'll never forget one of the last few times I shopped at the local one around here, there was this utterly obnoxious employee that insisted he open my brand new Mega Man ZX game to play it because it was apparently the last one in the store. I was so baffled by the question I can't even remember if I said anything, but he went ahead and opened it and played it for awhile before giving it to me. My-newly-bought, now-opened-by-someone-else game. Awesome.
I stopped caring around that point.
He opened your game and played it when you were buying it or what?
Employee: Hey man this is the last copy in the store, you mind if I check it out for a few minutes?
Me: Oh, uh wha...
Employee: Cool man thanks. *opens up sealed game and plays it for a few minutes*. Yeah man cool here's your game see ya.
Seriously, that is exactly what happened.
This employee was the worst guy I've ever seen in my life. I remember a few times going into the store and he'd be on the phone cussing out loud and crap, in front of other customers, children, etc, he didn't even care. He was beyond rude when it came to purchasing things too, and I know he had to know me a bit from going up there a few times. Hopefully this guy didn't last long, but he was pretty much the final straw for me. Since then I haven't bothered with my local Gamestop in years.

Next time something happens like this, ask to speak to the manager. Also, file a complaint with corporate. If you let someone walk over you and don't complain, well, nothing will change.Ryvius wrote: This employee was the worst guy I've ever seen in my life. That isn't the way you run any business and that behavior was very inappropriate.

plus your receipt comes with a link for a customer survey about that specific shopping experience and has questions about the employee that rang you up.gtmtnbiker wrote:Next time something happens like this, ask to speak to the manager. Well I was at the edge anyways, and just didn't even care.
But you guys are right. Gotta say I wish I knew about the receipt thing at least.
The sad and funny thing is though, the manager at that store I almost kind of knew (same with my mom when she went in with me as a kid back in the day), that guy was there for years even when it was a Funcoland I think. He was pretty awesome, I think he's in some local metal band too haha. Just too bad I stopped seeing him as much the last few times I went years ago.
Nowadays I only bother with old collectible trade in stores and such or get almost everything online.

Agree with this response to no end. This is retail and that's how it works. Saying something to the necessary channels will get results. I remember a time where they used to do the old game= new game deal back in 2006/2007 but I don't see that being done anymore. Complaining helps. I get great customer service when I go in now no problem, and I have 7 or 8 stores within my little 13 x 11 mile island. I went missing from a store for a few months because there was a dick who questioned why I got a wii points card and paid with a Visa. Found out he got booted a couple of months later and went back.gtmtnbiker wrote:Next time something happens like this, ask to speak to the manager. Also, file a complaint with corporate. Now on topic. I went to those locations all in one day to snag up some games. I got around 10 to 12 games for a great price that I was on the fence on. My suggestion is to take the two guides "hidden gems" and "cheapest games" for GBA and go nuts. Also add Pokemon games to that because they will be extremely difficult to find on the cheap later. And those are my suggestions.

Don't Pokemon games hold their value pretty well? And aren't bootlegs kind of a problem when trying to buy them online? I'd say the pokemon games are worth going after if they're legit copies.casterofdreams wrote:Also add Pokemon games to that because they will be extremely difficult to find on the cheap later. How the hell did I miss this thread? O_o
Anyhow, GBA's being axed on the third and that's that for fresh trades of GBA games and systems.
However, anyone reading this should hold on for a little bit (unless a store has a rare and hard to find title) as just like with the old retro stuff, Original GameBoy & GameBoy color and Original Xbox, the GBA stuff's gonna get discounted like nobody's business.
Starts off after a month or so of discontinuation with a typical 25% off or so, then it's "Buy 2, Get 1", then it's 50% off, followed by "Buy 1, get 2", then "Buy 2, Get 1 and 25% off", later it's 75% off and finally it sits at "Buy 1, Get 2 and 75% off" at the end.
I bought tons and tons of retro, GB/GBC and old school Xbox at the cheapo discounts when they started happening and built up a good amount of my current collection that way.

Re: Gamestop to stop carrying GBA stuff Apr. 3. What's next?
Yeah no doubt you guys will be able to find some decent discounted GBA games once Gamestop start discontinuing them.
Here in the UK we have a shop called Gamestation. It's basically the major chain next to Game (and both are owned by Game now).
Back in the day Gamestation was just a few shops in the country, and they used to have some amazing retro stock and was a great store. Then it got big. They expanded hugely across the country opening stores all over the place. Gamestation was renowned for its large retro stock. I loved the place.
Anyways, eventually Gamestation was bought by Game (boo
) and it became a shitty standard games shop that didn't really stock retro stuff. It basically just became Game mark 2. At the time there was a lot of these rumours flying around that they were going to burn their retro stock nationwide. Whether that actually happened or not, I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me. A lot of retro stuff disappeared FAST from a lot of Gamestation stores then. However my local one did have some good deals. They ended just shoving all their N64 carts into a huge bargain bin for example and selling them for 40p each, or 4 for a pound (£1). There was a lot of crap in there, especially after a couple of days, but you wouldn't believe the bargains I got the first day I went in and noticed the sale on.
Ok, sorry that was a really long winded story that really has little to do with Gamestop, but what I was trying to say is... It could be worse, and hopefully some of you manage to grab some real bargains when they get crazy and put silly sales on to get rid of stock.
