DBZ is incredibly long and exhaustive, I tried to re-watch the series in its entirety but ended up stopping because stuff was just unnecessarily dragged out way too much. There was no reason for, say, Frieza to take 40+ episodes to defeat. That's longer than most entire series. Less is more sometimes.

I've heard before that Kai is censored though, which would be something worth complaining about imo.
Of course I want to see more of it if I like it. It seems to me that if you think it's all filler, you must not be that big of a Dragon Ball fan. You don't have to rush to the action to enjoy Dragon Ball, the characters, the art, and the suspense give Dragonball Z in particular it's charm.

And I did complain about things being changed, my Mr. Popo comment was kind of a smartass way of doing that. And I mentioned it in my initial post regarding DBZ Kai.

Which is your favorite Dragon Ball Series? Dragon Ball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT, or Dragonball Z Kai?

it's a tie between Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. I like the original's lightheartedness but Z has a way of keeping me on the edge of my seat. I admit that it drags on a bit especially during pre and mid-fight trashtalks, and Kai was right to trim down the entire series. Unfortunately, Kai also took out some of the best filler stories, like when Picollo was trying to apply for a driver's license, or when the Z soldiers were training in Kami's place and had a virtual fight with two saiyan warriors. Or that episode when Nappa and Vegeta visited a planet.

Which is your favorite Dragon Ball Movie?

The one with Bardock. Its the most fleshed-out movie since it actually has decent plot and is canon. The other movies were just 20% exposition and 80% fight scenes.

Which storyline/saga is your favorite?

I consider the Saiyan saga and the Frieza saga as one storyline, and it's my favorite even though the last few parts kinda dragged on. The power levels were also more consistent at that time, even Yamcha and Yajirobe had use during the vegeta fight (and Krillin had major parts during the namek scenes). By the time Trunks appeared, the power levels were a bit inconsistent and it gets silly with stuff like planet busters Freeza, King Cold, and SSJ trunks fighting without doing that much damage to the earth (I know that it's been shown that Freeza wasn't taking Trunks too seriously, but the fight scene just really made all three of them look weaker than Freeza and Goku was back at Namek).

Which Z-Fighter is your favorite?

Picollo. He's a much better foil to Goku than Vegeta was. He's certainly smarter than Goku and not prone to making stupid mistakes out of pride. Besides, him being able to stay near within the power levels of the 4 saiyans means there's still variety. The show would be boring if it revolves only on four blonde humanoids (it's a shame the constant advancements in power levels relegated the other Z-soldiers to cannon fodder, to the point that their deaths no longer even had any effect on the viewer).

Which villain was your favorite?

Freeza. jfrost nailed it right in the head. He was a real Big Bad from the very start. The villains that came after him only became big threats because of mistakes by the protagonists (cell for example, could have been defeated or routed several times if it weren't for mistakes made by the characters)

It's not like characterization, art, and suspense would have to at all be sacrificed by cutting out filler. Filler is by its very definition just that, filler. It's stuff that offers nothing in the way of characterization or storytelling. I'm talking about the stuff that was put into the show only to waste time until Akira Toriyama's manga provided more material to adapt.

But I digress, saying that I just am not that big of a dragon ball fan feels a little insulting. I love the original series plenty, and DBZ itself played a pretty big role in my childhood up until the Buu saga (where I kinda stopped watching for whatever reason).

I think Kai could be great. I haven't actually watched it, but after attempting to marathon through the saiyan/freeza portion of DBZ, I could certainly stand to see the show trimmed a bit.

I understand you wanting to keep the show in its unaltered form, but hey, it's not like the original DBZ is being phased out of existence or whatever. It could be worse, like the Star Wars SEs or something.

I have to say I'm usually not one for such... Liberal dubbings.
However it really has its amazing moments that I still remember fondly from my teenage years.

Some of them only work if you know some things that even in Brazil you wouldn't. For example, when Goku goes SSJ3 in front of Boo, in the Portuguese dub they put in a stupid remark about a known Portuguese hairdresser (Lucia Piloto)... I mean, who thought up of that...

Saint Seiya!

The Brazilian opening is quite decently done. You should check the crappy french opening, that is the music that the Portuguese version used (and the lyrics, argh).

When I first started dating my wife I made a joke about how I needed to power up for Tae Kwon Do but that would take an entire episode. She laughed and I knew then that she was the one.

Which is your favorite Dragon Ball Series? Dragon Ball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT, or Dragonball Z Kai?

The original Dragonball series and Dragonball Z up until the Aryan Nation took over.

Which is your favorite Dragon Ball Movie?

Tree of Might. I thought the 'what-if?' quality of it was interesting. Also it was nice to see the entire cast work together.

Which storyline/saga is your favorite?

The 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament. Probably some of the most enjoyable (and least one sided) battles in the entire show.

Which Z-Fighter is your favorite?

Yamcha. He was the first villain and the first ally. I thought his development during the show was great. In the early seasons the guy really was extraordinary and a top notch fighter. He beat Giant Monkey Goku, for crying out loud! He also tied a lot of the cast together and (with Bulma) served to show the viewer the world of Dragonball (since Goku was just as ignorant as the audience). Later on... well, I was oh-so disappointed that he, like all the humans except Krillin, was just forgotten about so that a few extra Saiyans could be written in. I think the show would have been a lot more enjoyable in the later seasons if the humans had been given a role in defending the planet.

Which villain was your favorite?

King Piccolo. Dragonball was all slap stick until Goku caught the attention of the Demon King. King Piccolo's killing of Krillin was like a wake up call that there were consequences to Goku's way of life. The rest of the villains just seemed like plot related obstacles to show Goku will always win.

   at the first comment.

Which tournament was the 22nd? Was it the first one they joined? The one with Tensihan? Or the one with Piccolo?

Yeah, Tien's big debut was at the 22nd. The fight between he and Yamcha was pretty amazing. Especially where Yamcha managed to put off the kamehameha wave without having been formally instructed in it.

I tell you, Yamcha was a victim of the plot.

To be honest, I only became a fan in January of 2009 when I decided to start watching Dragon Ball. The only reason I wanted to was because I heard the uncut version had sex jokes and bad words so I thought it would be funny to see a kid's cartoon like that. But I got addicted and ended up watching all 153 episodes in a week. (And I was an anime hater, I used to make fun of kids at school that watched any anime). I then moved on to DBZ, which I had only seen once or twice on TV in the 90s. This was kind of a hassle because all the long fights were boring to me but I still loved it. I then watched GT and hated every minute of it but still finished. The last episode was kind of good though. I then watched all the movies but I still have yet to see DB Movies 1-3 because I don't want to watch them until they get dubbed by FUNimation. Dragon Ball is what got me into other anime, I've watched a lot since then. I'm currently watching DBZ Kai.

Which is your favorite Dragon Ball Series? Dragon Ball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT, or Dragonball Z Kai?
Dragon Ball, it's more of a comedy than straight up action and it's an origin story which I love. The fights in it are way more realistic than DBZ and I just love Goku as a kid. Plus there's a lot more Roshi in it! Also, I find the animation to be a lot better.

But I also love Z Kai (the uncut one, not the tv version) because it cuts out all the boring and un-needed crap and the script/voice acting is waaaay better. But I just wish they kept the same voice cast!

Which is your favorite Dragon Ball Movie?
Probably the first Broly movie, it's just epic.

Which storyline/saga is your favorite?
Probably just the saga of Goku in DB. Because of all the sex jokes and toilet humor.

Which Z-Fighter is your favorite?
This one is tough, My favorite character in all of DB/Z is Piccolo so I have to say him but I also love Goku and Tien.

Which villain was your favorite?
For DB, it's gotta be Piccolo Jr. but for DBZ it's obviously Frieza, he's the scariest villain ever.
