Exclusive invite only Nintendo event at the Manchester Cube Gallery. Because I'm super cool like that.

I'd say it's definitely worth it if you're considering pre-ordering one. The 3D can only be experienced in person so you're just not going to know what it's like until it's already out. I'm quite lucky because Manchester is only a 45 minute jaunt down the motorway for me, so it was a no-brainer when they sent me an invite. Personally, it was useful for me because I'll know whether or not to cancel my pre-order depending on the launch titles. If there is nothing worth getting at launch I will cancel my pre-order and wait for a title that I want to come out.

@Inazuma
Ridge Racer looks ok in 2D mode, but the graphics are not that much better than the PSP version of Ridge Racers. A disappointment. I don't know what it is about the 3D effect, but it just doesn't work right for me.

This is one thing I was discussing at the event, it's going to be a tricky device to review since the 3D effect can be more effective for one person than another. I tried fiddling with the 3D slider to see if you could get a less pronounced 3D effect but I could barely see the difference. It seemed either on or off to me. Bare in mind that glasses 3D doesn't work for me. This does though, which was one of the minor revelations. It was the main thing I wanted to get from the event. I wish I knew why this 3D works yet glasses doesn't. I didn't get any motion sickness or headaches, until I tried the AR games. They gave me a headache from the constant refocusing/movement. I'm definitely going to be avoiding those games...

My excitement is high. The reason: Pilotwings~ :D
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

I just realized that I am very much interested in the 3D picture taking and viewing aspect - I'm curious about how well it works.
I mean the resolution of the cameras is not very good, but in theory the 3DS has the hardware to do 3D picture taking (how decently?).

In the not-so far future I would like to have acessible 3D pictures (and be able to see them again without glasses, ideally), which is why I'm interested in this aspect that is basically irrelevant for games... The 3DS will probably sell very well and I hope it would create more widespread interest in such a feature.

Niode (or anyone else that had hands-on), did you try this?
Anyone else going for a hands-on, do you mind checking this aspect and posting here about it?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry we didn't get a chance to have a look at that. They were showing off most of the features of the device like the Mii maker and AR games but I don't think they showed off the 3D camera. I'm not really interested in using the camera anyway, can't see the point in it other than for games.

What I want to have eventually would be 3D portraits of my loved ones (hopefully before more of them pass away). Photos are good, but 3D photos I think would be better (maybe not though).

Probably the 3DS cameras are too crappy to do this well enough to be better than a quality 2D photo, but maybe they can generate some more interest.

Let's try to be less morbid and depressing when discussing the 3DS, okay?

Wow guys :P I guess it did seem rather depressing, but I did not mean it that way :) Just ignore the part inside the brackets, that was just a indirect way of saying that I would rather be able to take 3D pics sooner rather than later (obviously it does not seem to have been the better choice of words for that :D).

Glad to have started (although unwittingly) a good joke, though :)

I'm with you, Ivo. I think the 3D photo thing could be a blast and the 'sleeper Killer App' of the 3DS. Although I may just wait until more dedicated 3D point-and-shoots are released. I'm not even concerned about transferring the images to PC or displaying on a TV. To me it would just be nifty to have this little "magic gizmo" where your images spring to life from.
