I don't know about that. First off, Wii and 360 games are DVDs. And some scrubbed Wii games are extremely small (easy to download). PS3 games are BD, and some of them can be pretty big. I haven't been keeping up with this, but I'm sure some of the bigger games are 25-50GB. Downloading that isn't cake like a simple Wii game. Now as far as playing pirated software on a PS3 goes, is there any options available yet? Again, I haven't been keeping up with this info, but I haven't heard of any way to play the images off a hard drive yet. But even being so, downloading and transferring that much data isn't too easy for most people. Playing burnt BD's is kinda out of the question right now, since not a lot of people have BD burners and the price of blank media can cost more than a PS3 game.

Actually, there are around a dozen or so backup managers out there for the PS3 that all support loading from the Hard Drive. Also, most PS3 games are around 10 GB, with only a few going above 25 GB [The biggest game so far is God of War 3, which is around 45 GB], with many clocking in at under 5 GB, so it isn't as slow as you think to download a PS3 game. Heck, Valkyria Chronicles is under 10 GB, if memory serves me right.

Yeah, I figured there were already ways to play games off the hard drive. But I still don't think game piracy on the PS3 will be as bad as the Wii. I bet there's more people out there that play backups on the Wii then there are people that own a PS3.

A bit of extreme exaggeration. Wii lifetime to date sales is around 72m. PS3 is around 41m. You're stating that 57% of people play backups on the Wii?

So it only does everything now?

Now that it is out of Sony's death grip, yes, it does.

I've gotta say, even as a Sony fan, I kinda thought that slogan fell a little short. Surprising that the community is what made it come true a bit.

I wouldn't use it for piracy either. If quality emulators comes out for the PS3, that's what I would use this for.

I'd like to think the majority of us would only use these "powers for good," but when you take into consideration the rising price of video games, overabundance of shovelware on all systems, as well as the fact that many young kids and college gamers (with no respect for the video game industry as long as they get their hands on the latest Madden or Halo) will most definitely pirate games if it's do-able and not costing them their weekly allowance/beer money. This is what Sony would want to counter-attack, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they implement some kind of anti-piracy encryption in future firmwares that bars hacked units from playing newer games, (at the cost of cutting their loses with games pre-2011.) <end rant>

Personally, I can't wait to play around with whatever homebrew apps and exploits the hacking community throws out there; granted, it's probably going to be some time before quality and working emulators and apps get out into the wild.. But if it's anything like what they did with the Dreamcast and original XBox, then I'll be in techie-nerd heaven!

What a great day to get a free PS3 from my buddy! 8)
