I have a 2600 Darth Vader Model and I think it is beautiful! At least on par with the woodgrain 2600. Almost like the woodgrain's evil brother that hides in the background, catering only to those gamers who embrace the dark side of the force.Breetai wrote:Worst looking: any Atari 2600 that is not wood grain. That system NEEDS woodgrain!
I feel like it, as well as the Model 1 Genesis and all of Nintendo's consoles are the best looking consoles in my collection. Nintendo has always made consoles that are simplistic and sleek. I also like how they are one of the only companies whose consoles keep getting smaller, which is good because I keep having to add them into my collection and space is limited. They look great together, especially stacking the SNES on top of the NES - like my childhood packaged into some wonderful bundle of awesomeness.
I love the Atari Jaguar, well come of the games, but I agree that it is awful looking. It looks and feels cheap and extremely breakable. It's rare that an add on makes a system look better, only the Model 1 Genesis and CD Drive and the Jaguar and CD Drive accomplish this, but it is not enough to save the Jaguar. I like how you can plug the CD Drive in and still have access to the cartridge although the entire system is so cheap you are unlikely to find a complete working unit. The exposed cartridge slot is another annoying feature. I have to keep a cartridge in all the time to prevent dust from building up.
Best looking controllers are the NES and SNES original pads. They look and feel great. Worst is the Atari Jaguar. Aside for my hatred for 3 button controllers (I grew ip Nintendo) it is so freaking huge and heavy. The phone style buttons are a good idea for quick weapon switching at first, but I usually end up forgetting what weapon is on what button and have to press just as many buttons trying to find the one I want. Plus those little inserts (though neat) are easily broken or lost. I think I only have 1 or 2 of them left actually...
Best looking cartridge goes to the 2600, Genesis, and SNES. Small, but sturdy and easily stackable or displayable. Worst goes to the Jaguar. The little handle on the top and the curve is weird looking and horrible for stacking, displaying.
