Westwood has made these games free to download.

Command and Conquer
Red Alert
and Tiberian Sun

But can the same be said for

Warcraft
Warcraft 2
Diablo
Stores still sell the Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft battle chests. If stores will still put it on their shelves, that tells you it still sells enough copies to be worth the space it takes away from newer games. Either the Westwood games weren't pulling enough money in to bother reprinting it or the license issues due to the studio's closing kept it from enjoying the same extended shelf life. But more than likely they simply released them for free when the studio closed in 2003.

I have to disagree with you.

First, I don't think I can claim Blizzard is overrated. Every game they have released since Warcraft II has been very good and while it's a popular company I can't say they praise it too much.

I also don't think that they are copying C&C games. In fact, I would say that they took a very different aproach. The Blizzard games are very light on economical aspects and base builings while those elements are very important in C&C. Similarly C&C was always known for not having a headcount limit, something very prevalent in Blizzard games.

Gameplay is about as different as you can get in a RTS game, IMHO.

My only qualm with Blizzard is the amount of time and resources they pour into WoW. WoW is a fun, addictive game, don't get me wrong, but it's retarded most of their other game development. Diablo III should have been out by now, IMO.

I usually don't root for the big guy, but Blizzard is yet to disappoint me with a game. Their games are very, very refined and their gameplay is, or at least was, genre-defining.

Actually I do. I cant get into their games and I know what your thinking (wow this kid doesnt like wow type games) however this is not true. I am a huge Oblivion fan and I like the gameplay and that comes first in my book.

Blizzard now-a-days is a shadow of its former self as everything else is put on the back burner for WoW (which is el terriblè) and they've been pretty lame since they ganged up with Activision.. But before 2004, yea they were pretty awesome and their legacy will live on.

I have to say, WoW is played by far, far more people than the amount that will play their other games. And they pay far, far more. It would be stupid not to care of their WoW playerbase to care for a smaller one. It's just how it works.

Korea begs to differ  .

I always found it ironic that WoW hasn't managed to become as huge in the East. Although right now China is a much bigger part of its 12 million userbase than Acti would wants us to know, its success still pales to the success other Eastern MMOs have had over time.

While Starcraft's fanbase is huge it is not as big as WoW's. They also sell SC only once while they sell WoW each month.

I think they could have released another SC in 2004 or so but I don't think they expected WoW to be so succesful

I think that it's not due to quality but to style. The style of WoW is extremely different from that of Eastern RPG and people there may not like it.

yeah I know what you were talking about mate. I was just making fun at the fact that you talked about "fanbase" and even though the 12 million playing WoW pay much more than those playing Starcraft do, you can't compare fanbases in population alone
