Lossless audio beats the crap out of 256. Sounds like night and day to me. There were actually studies done that compressed audio actually has an affect on people subconsciously. Sample rates we can't even hear have been found to effect enjoyment in listening to music. </snob>D.D.D. wrote:I literally LOL'd.avrame wrote:Haha, woooo!

Can't stand it when people defend products or hardware with faulty logic.
"Mac books cost most because they are more high tech"
"I only use Monster cables for my system, everything else to clearly inferior"
"I need Lossless audio, because 256kbit/s sounds like trash, I can tell the difference with my stock iPod headphones BTW"

Re: What are you the most snobbish aboot?
When I was younger I used to be snobby about car modification, especially with boost pressures, suspension setups and wheel offsets/tire fitment. People boosting 1.8 BAR with stock internals on a turbine designed for 0.8 BAR. Then they wonder why their car is on a flatbed instead of in their driveway. Also, people who buy BOVs just for the sound with no knowledge of its true purpose.
I let off on most of that as I got older.

The standard audio compression algorithms we all use 99% of the time render music with the exact same temporal sampling as the uncompressed source.</snob>fvgazi wrote: Lossless audio beats the crap out of 256. The freshness and quality of what I can get here is the only thing I'm concerned about.
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Those algorithms are only as good as the programmer + listener. They guess what the listener is picking up on and sort out the rest. Each encoder is different.Limewater wrote:The standard audio compression algorithms we all use 99% of the time render music with the exact same temporal sampling as the uncompressed source.</snob>fvgazi wrote: Lossless audio beats the crap out of 256. What it boils down to is if you are using lossless, you need high quality hardware. If you don't have the right equipment, no bother in going for higher sound quality.

As for me, I picked music. I try not be a music snob, but I just don't give a shit about Rock 'n' Roll in the 80s and onwards with a few exceptions. I feel like I'm wasting my time with it. All that Hard Rock ever makes me want to do is listen to Judas Priest and Grunge, ugh, fuck Grunge. I also hate a lot of Pop Music that isn't Michael Jackson.

Yes, no, and yes. Basically we only sorta got along.D.D.D. wrote:Was this person a real human that you knew as a real friend whom you happened to be friends with on Facebook or just someone that was "a Facebook friend"? I work in IT. Macs are basically the most ridiculous things to troubleshoot ever. They don't have many problems, but when they do, you haven't got the foggiest clue what the issue is.Limewater wrote:I'm almost pretentious enough to follow this with my opinion in the vi/emacs war.YoshiEgg25 wrote: I am very snobby about Windows vs. Macs. Almost.
That and they're not user-friendly at all for anyone who's used Windows previously for more than a year.

Re: What are you most pretentious about?
you heard Mr. Bungle? (probably)... how bout Sleepytime Gorilla Museum? (maybe)... or Unexpect? ...Radiation 4, Melt Banana, Dog Fashion Disco (and affiliated acts Polkadot Cadaver and The Alter Boys and Knives Out!), Made Out of Babies (and affiliated act Battle of Mice), Battles, Camille, Car Bomb, Cursive, Mike Patton (huge, FUCKING HUGE and diverse career), Gogol Bordello, The Jesus Lizard, Mindless Self Indulgence, The Mars Volta (their first album mostly, Deloused in the Comatorium), MGMT, Orange Tulip Conspiracy, Secret Chiefs 3, The Receiving End of Sirens (mainly their second album The Earth Sings Fi Ma Fi), 65daysofstatic, The Sound of Animals Fighting (avoid their second one Lover, The Lord Has Left us, it was a big mess compared to their first and second), Stolen Babies, Ugly Casanova (side project of Modest Mouse singer)... just to name a few. I always get excited when talking about eclectic music. Not being a douche to "see if you know all the COOL bands I DO" ... just spreading the word.fvgazi wrote:#1 Music. Even though I love gaming, music is the reason I get up everyday. When I'm not gaming or actually playing music, I'm downloading, or visiting record stores and markets to get "obscure" music or just beef up my listening. "Obscure" is quoted because there really isn't anything obscure when you're an eclectic music lover.
