This forum contains some great films, including many of my very favorite westerns. (I love Sergio Leone's westerns as much as everyone else here.)

Accordingly, I will add: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) and (my wife's personal favorite) Stagecoach (1939).

I don't have a favorite Western movie. I only watch Japanese movies. Some of the recent One Piece movies have been really good.

You should give The Magnificent Seven a watch, just for cross cultural interest. At the least, it's a useful point of reference for contrasting Eastern and Western styles.

Wrong definition of "Western". Also doesn't surprise me since you seem to dislike just about everything else from the west.

I'll throw in one that bends, but does not break the definition of a Western though, Serenity.

Yeah sorry, I did that on purpose. It is true that I dislike just about everything from the west though.

I don't even like Japanese movies that much, honestly. I much prefer a TV show, because they have more time to really flesh out the story and do proper character development.

The Trigun anime is good. The manga artwork is very busy and hard to tell what's going on most of the time. I gave up on it after a few books.

I'm surprised The Searchers has gotten so little mention so far! It's probably John Ford's most impressive film, staring John Wayne as a seriously troubled, somewhat insane hero. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I remember it having pretty subversive subtext.

It's tough for me to narrow down to one absolute favorite, so I'll mention some others:
A Fistful of Dollars - my favorite of the "Man With No Name" trilogy (or "Dollars Trilogy")
The Wild Bunch - a very interesting film that deals heavily with violence
El Topo - a bizarre movie about a quest for enlightenment
