Do you mean something like the Namco Museum, Capcom Classics or the SNK collections? I'm not sure how we'd tackle that since there are a lot of games on most compilations - way too many to deal with effectively in a month.

agreed. I find it best to focus on a single title -- even if it's a simple one, because it forces you to spend serious time with it and try to best your score, or know the game better.

Would there be any interest in a space shooter? Descent, XvT, Wing Commander, Elite, Star Raiders. So much to choose from.

Also, I see turn based strategy got dropped from the list. That's unfortunate.

as far as shooters go, I really want a Shmup of the classic Gradius/R-Type/Parodius/etc variety. I don't think we've ever done one for TR.

Turn Based Strategy is easily one of my favorite genres, so I agree we should have one.

Nothing has been finalized (yet).

Sure, sure, a space shooter is no replacement for a typical 2d shmup. More of a branch of the combat flight sim genre.

Maybe we'd do better to just vote on a ton of genres and take the top 12? Sort out the dates and titles later.

yeah I had sort of expected a massive pool of genres for everyone to just vote on (maybe picking their top 5 or something, I don't know). Anyway, I think this would be going a lot smoother if fast wasn't having some weird issues getting on the site lately. I'm not sure what the problem is.

I agree that I'd love to see turn based strategy. I also agree that I'd quite like something along the lines of R-type or parodius for shmup.

If we do turn-based strategy game, I hope it's Pokemon.

For 2012, we should do Pokemon games over different genres. It covers TBS, RTS, puzzle, simulation, and rail-shooting. Maybe I'm forgetting some. I probably am.

based on user suggestions in this thread, and another thread from a few months ago, this is the list that Fastbilly and I put together. What is the generally feeling on this one, especially about the order of genres (pacing, etc)?

Jan - RPG
Feb - Fighter
Mar - FPS
Apr - Adventure
May - Puzzle
Jun - Shmup
Jul - Racing
Aug - Platform
Sep - Sim
Oct - Baseball
Nov - Strategy (TBS or RTS?)
Dec - Party

I'm liking this quite a bit. Especially with RPG's and Fighters at the front of the year where money tends to be less of a problem.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
