In the writer's defense, that article was also written nearly three years ago. It's been posted on this site at least once in the past year, too, as I remember pointing out its age then. The guy has probably learned there are some enjoyable games on the console in the meantime, especially if he reads his comments.Incognito D wrote:In the writer's defence, it was The Worst Major Console of All Time. With the exception of possibly the Virtual Boy, none of the ones you mentioned can be considered major consoles - and I wouldn't even consider the Virtual Boy to be a major console, come to think of it. Did it even come out in Europe?YoshiEgg25 wrote:Apparently this man has never heard of the Gizmondo. Or N-Gage. Or Phantom. Or Virtual Boy. Did I just list five systems worse than the Saturn? It didn't take too long. This guy is obviously very sheltered if the Saturn is the worst system in his book.
Now, I didn't go over that list, but can you name 30 great NTSC-U releases? This isn't a thing bashing the Saturn, I want to hear folks thoughts on what were some good Saturn games to make it over here.

Re: SEGA Saturn -- simple yet elegant
I still play Guardian Heroes and Nights often and I put many hours into the three Shining Games (Wisdom, Holy Ark, and Force 3). These may not equal 30, but I put more hours playing my Saturn than I did PS1... I only put time into FF7 and MGS.Ack wrote:Now, I didn't go over that list, but can you name 30 great NTSC-U releases? I can't name 30, only a handful. BUT the handful that I could name, I spent the most time playing than any of the consoles that came after it (except maybe Marvel Vs Capcom 2).
Re: SEGA Saturn -- simple yet elegant
I think whether or not you agree with this article depends on what you think a MAJOR console is. Starting from the NES era I'd list major consoles as the following:
NES
SNES/Genesis
Saturn/PSX/N64
Dreamcast/PS2/GameCube/XBox
Wii/XBox360/PS3
Of these, it starts to become more clearly understandable that someone would say that the Saturn is the worst console of all time. For me however, I'd say the N64 was the worst of these.
Note: My criteria for what a major console is: I had to know more than 5 at the time who actually owned one of these. I didn't know a single person that owned a MS, TG-16, Jaguar, Neo-Geo, 3DO, etc.

That's a very North American view. In Europe and South America, the Master System was the dominant 8 bit machine. In Japan the PC-Engine was a powerful competitor. The Saturn was also very successful in Japan.rainnyx4 wrote:I think whether or not you agree with this article depends on what you think a MAJOR console is. Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Just as they come to mind. I'll try not to let the list get too repetitive; sequels only listed if I really feel like owning multiple entries in the series is worthwhile. And some Gamerankings scores to "substantiate" their status as "great" (which, by GameRankings logic, means "as good or better than Resident Evil and Burning Rangers):Ack wrote:Now, I didn't go over that list, but can you name 30 great NTSC-U releases? Can you even say the same about the Nintendo 64? I think the Saturn made a really good showing for itself, in spite of the mistakes of SoA.Original_Name wrote: LIST OF AWESOME SATURN GAMES!!!

Re: SEGA Saturn -- simple yet elegant
I'd actually rather keep my Saturn over an N64 any day..proof? I sold two N64's and I don't plan on selling my Saturn. N64 does have some good titles, but it just doesn't appeal to me nearly as much as other systems. And there are alot more Saturn games that I'd like to play than N64.
