Immortal

I like metal most when it has a subtle but strong melody to it. While they aren't technically considered 'heavy metal' these are two of the most creative, impressive, and enjoyable metal bands I've ever heard. 'Immortal is a timeless frost.' I saw them live, it changed my life.
You should check out Sacramentum - Far Away From the Sun if you like Dissection type of melodic black metal. Very underrated band.

Also didn't see anyone mention Kalmah which wipes the floor with most melodic death metal bands.

Been listening to mostly Thrash bands lately:

Sodom
Demolition Hammer
Vio-lence
Desaster
Dark Angel
Accept (not thrash but still awesome)

Accept is amazing, bro. My top 3 favorite albums are "Restless and Wild," "Metal Heart," and of course, "Balls to the Wall"!

Vio-lence? DUDE! Gotta love "Eternal Nightmare."

Hell yeah! Glad to see more Dark Angel freaks! What's your favorite Dark Angel album? My favorite has got to be "Time Does Not Heal," but I also LOVE "Leave Scars" and "Darkness Descends." Also, I really enjoyed their "Hell's on Its Knees" and "Gonna Burn" demos from their earlier discography. They seriously had that potential, and somewhat proved it.

Unfortunately, Ron Rinehart's conversion to Christianity led that awesome band to shambles in 1992. It was a cold era for metal (unless you were following the Floridan death metal bands!)... Oh, and Gene Hoglan is a fucking beast of a drummer (I should know; I play drums).

There have been so many times on other forums that I have made a metal thread and people list things like disturbed, under oath, korn, slipknot and various other "nu-metal" and 90's hard rock bands.

This probably has to do with the older age of the users here.
You know what, man? I just turned 20! I never really had an interest for those bands you mentioned. But speaking of Disturbed and Slipknot, there were these two thrash metal bands that formed in the '80s decade that had those exact same names.

Don't believe me? Here, check these links out:
http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=102128 Slipknot (Crossover thrash)
http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=42066 Disturbed (Thrash)

I have listened to both of these '80s thrash metal bands, and while I personally don't think either are up to par with my main faves, these two bands in my opinion still sound pretty effin' brutal, and are good enough to scare the living Hell out of a mallcore kid!
I mean no disrespect to your age, I was just saying that the youngins tend to not know the diffrence between hard rock and metal. If they like slipknot and distrubed good for them, but call it what it is.

I was aware of the slipknot band from the 80's, never heard any of their music though. I only knew about them since I searched for slipknot on the archieves once, probably as you did also haha.

Metal-Archives is a decent site, but I often wonder why they exclude potentially metal bands like Kingdom Come or Van Halen (after all, Eddie Van Halen influenced most metal guitarists of the '80s up to today) when they have bands like Bullet for My Valentine on the archives. I just don't get it...

You should listen to Slipknot's one and only EP, dude. Here are a few killer tunes to check out:

You can also look up Disturbed's songs on YouTube. Just type "Disturbed Disturbing the Peace" and you'll find about 12 songs from their only full-length studio album. I can't link you on this computer because it filters the "f" word on searches (there's a song recorded on that album simply called 'What the Fuck!?!').

I think its funny all these new bands coming around playing thrash. I have seen all three of them live. Bonded by Blood was by far the best of the three, but they are quite shy in person.

I forgot to mention the German Thrash bands I like, can't belive I missed them.

Destruction, Sodom (new album this year), Kreator, Holy Moses and Darkness.

I also like avant garde thrash bands Coroner (really different toward the end but still good) and Anacrusis stand out as being thrash but not going by the rules.

Anybody else get Accept's new album Blood of the Nation? Its their heavest work to date.

Oh, and it's all good about the age thing. I wasn't offended at all; just letting you know that I am a young dude who mainly listens to bands that came around before he was even born. ;)

I'm surprised that so many people seem to share my view of Reign In Blood being a giant filler sandwich.

I believe it's their sense of humor that attracts me to these three. Heck, Gama Bomb has songs about Zod, Final Fight, and the Technodrome. How could I not love them?

I guess the obvious choice is Powerglove.

They just released a new album with old cartoon themes. For those of you who don't know, their previous two albums were video game covers.

It's kind of funny, but now that y'all have mentioned it, the only songs of Reign in Blood that stand out in my mind are Angel of Death and Raining Blood. Oh, and also Criminally Insane. That might be because I have the re-issue and it's on there twice.
