Well, I feel like an overreacting ass right now  . Thanks GOG, for tricking me and making me freak out for nothin'.
I've just had too many other websites close with no warning in the past (Working Designs). Granted, they didn't have my money online, but still...

I'm not mad though, just momentarily annoyed. I'll probably be even more likely to buy games from them. Who knows when I won't be able to get them. This trick works on me to an extent.

Definitely downloading and backing everything up as soon as I buy though (advice previously given).
...just another lost soul...

Heh. I bet a lot of people will do that. Their servers are going to be jammed when they re-open.

Thankfully, I already have all my gog games downloaded and saved to a backup drive. In a way this stunt made me realize that if this happened with gog, I wouldn't lose my games, but if it happened with some other digital download service, I would be screwed.

I still think it was an ill advised publicity stunt, but I love gog, so I can have a sense of humor about it and forgive them. I thought the sinning monks video was kind of funny.

Maybe that is part of their point though - with stuff like Steam you are screwed if it is online. With GoG, as long as you keep your own copies, you aren't. Considering that they focus on old games, it is not so hard to keep your own copies (Storage became much cheaper with time).

This quote convinced me to backup games I buy on Steam to my hard drive. Thank you. :)

The GOG site is back up! :D

It's very slick looking, but it's glitchy as they are still working the kinks out.
Baldur's Gate is now available. They also have announced a deal with Hasbro, which means that they will finally be able to release the Dungeons & Dragons games that have been at the top of the user wishlists there for a long time. Baldur's Gate is just the start. I'm hoping this means they will be able to release Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale as well.

Don't you need to be online in order to play them, though?
I guess one can sort of count on somebody cracking the Steam authorization if Steam ever goes down permanently (I can even imagine some former Steam-employees helping), but that isn't necessarily guaranteed!

Try as I may, the 'Account Login' does not work for me.

Yeah, things are glitchy as hell right now. I managed to eventually log in, but it took a few attempts.

If it was, CD Projekt should've made it more obvious. If that point was apparent, this whole PR stunt would've been one of the greatest in the history in gaming.

(Or maybe it was and I missed it because I wasn't paying close enough attention.)
