That said, the few clips I've seen didn't appeal to me, so I'm planning on only watching it with the Riff Tracks, hopefully at some point in the coming month or so. I look at it in the same way I looked at the Harry Potter craze: avoid it, let them enjoy it while it lasts, and if I have any real interest in it I'll only pay attention to it several years after it dies.

Also, can we seriously quit it with the gay bashing and homosexual slurs? We have gay members who visit this site. And please don't swear in topic titles, as they're posted on the main page of the site.

ah I actually love Harry Potter. Well the first 4 books anyway.

Also I didn't want to offend anyone with that pic, I didn't make it, I just found it funny comparing Nosferatu, perhaps the scariest monster cinema has ever created, to the pretty teen boy over there.

It is...

I saw the first and second movie
The first was OK given a bit of a different setting, the second movies sucks big time.

its just a chicks thing to get horny over the vampire guy, I really didn't see anything worth noticing about the story. Average at best

I bought the book, without reading anything about the story and the characters.

I just kept hearing about Twilight and wanted to read it to have an opinion about it.

And I got to the point where Vampy tells his girlfriend he's a vampire, and I wanted to throw up on the book and then burn it. But since I live in an apartment building I had to settler for tearing it apart.

Really the stupidity of it's writing amazes me. She barely knows the guy, no let me correct that, SHE DOESN'T KNOW THE GUY, and just because he's amazingly hot she falls in love with him?

What does this shit teach people? What counts in a relationship is looks and only looks. And that may be somewhat true in real life, the way twilight handles it only makes the writing seam stupider. It's not like the girl is all horny and wants to have crazy sex with him. That, while shallow, would have made sense since she doesn't know anything about him beyond the fact that he looks good.

No instead the writer wants us to believe in love at first sight, which is really really childish.

Not that I don't believe in love, it's just that I believe, you know, 2 people have to TALK TO EACH OTHER first, in order to fall in love.

I didn't mind the story as much as the writing. I can accept plot points that don't make sense, I can even accept teenage love (sorry if I think people need to be mature to know if they can live with each other). It's the terrible writing that turned me off the book and the franchise. I mean is the writer a virgin or something? I can understand a young teenager having fantasies like that, but this was written by a woman in her 30s.

Looking at Twilight from a distance, I thought it was the sort of thing that most people might secretly like but were afraid to admit. Since I'm a borderline living version of Keith Apicary - in other words a hopeless nerd who doesn't care what other people think - I thought Twilight might appeal to me in some slight way, even if it was a "campy, guilty pleasure" sort of way.

Basically all there is to it is characters who are impulsive, lack self control, and get very, very upset over silly things that don't matter in the grand scheme of things, but they can't see past it so they overreact up to and including attempted suicide. Yes. The characters in New Moon try to KILL THEMSELVES over failed relationships.

The relationships to begin with have absolutely nothing to them. Bella and Edward did nothing together except trade lovey-dovey stares for extended periods of time. I don't recall them ever laughing together, complimenting each other with their different personalities in any endearingly specific way, facing a common challenge together. I don't even recall that they had any shared hobbies (maybe reading Shakespeare, but they don't explore that very far). The only obstacle in their relationship is this ambiguous reluctance on Edward's end to turn Bella into a vampire, the alleged consequence of which is that she'll "lose her soul." The film doesn't even go into what this means or what the theological implications are. Hell, I'd halfway respect the movie if it was a situation where Edward was a devout catholic and Bella was an agnostic and didn't really value her soul or something; at least that would make it halfway rooted in reality. But no, Bella says, "I don't care about my soul if I can't share it with you.", which is overstated circular logic based on a relationship with no real chemistry to begin with.

Bella's romantic interest in Jacob the werewolf is contrived and unconvincing. The only reason she hangs out with him to begin with is because she realizes doing dangerous things causes Edward's ghost to appear and warn her not to put herself in harm's way (like answering a random 30 year old biker on the street saying, "Hey, baby!" and going for a joyride with him.) So, she decides, "I guess I'll do dangerous, daredevil stuff all the time if it means I get to see phantasmagoric glimpses of Edward." The low point of the movie is when a human fella at her school offers to take her on a date to see a sappy romantic comedy, then I guess the screenwriters were trying to make Bella seem tough and tomboyish so she says, "Hey, how about we go see Face Punch?"

Face Punch. Really, I couldn't come up with that sort of thing on my own.

Did I mention Jacob takes off his shirt a lot?

As an aspiring fiction writer, I'm totally baffled at how this train wreck became such a runaway success. To me, it either means that I'll end up writing better work that enjoys some degree of "underground" or "cult" success, or I need to take after the example of Twilight, Eragon, Harry Potter, etc. and try and write something that's kind of crappy but appeals strongly to a particular gender/age group. It'd make me laugh if I made money selling this kind of garbage to people.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and make a prediction: Mummies are going to be totally tits in 2011!!
You Heard It Here First On Racketboy.com!!

Well, we did have ninjas in the 80s and 90s. We did have The Mummy and Mummy Returns not too long ago. I think Yetis are due for their 15 minutes.

Yetis already got their 15 minutes. . . in a mummy movie:

there's way too many pages in this thread, and I'm really not interested. But just in case nobody mentioned that Kristen Stewert was in her undies in the first Twilight, I just wanted to mention that Kristen Stewert was in her undies in the first Twilight.

May have to see this. Although I believe she wore even less in adventureland.
