I thought it was fun, but could've been an incredible game with a few minor tweaks. Certainly worth the like 7 bucks you'll spend on it. I've bought WAY worse games for more than that. *cough call of juarez cough*the7k wrote:I loved The Darkness, but I never played Dark Sector. There used to be this guy that would talk about how awesome it was all the time, but I never really paid him any mind... he didn't seem like the type of guy to have any taste.
I might actually have to check it out now.

Re: Current gen hidden gems
Nitrobike for PS2/Wii.
A lot of people criticized the graphics, sound, track design, and controls (on the Wii). But I honestly don't know what they're talking about. Even though the game won't win any awards, it's still literally a BLAST to play on the PS2! The graphics and sound may be comparable to early PS2 titles (not necessarily a bad thing) but it does run at a rock solid framerate throughout the entire game. And that's actually a bit of a rarity on third-party PS2 racing games.
As for the track design, I personally think they're done very well and fun to race on. So I really can't see what's so wrong with them either. They're better than the tracks in ATV Offroad Fury, I'll tell ya that much! Also, the extra track challenges that appear in between races, such as various Stunt and Time Trial sessions, can be very difficult yet fun and rewarding. A lot of them have that "one more time" spirit to them. You'll want to perfect your time or push yourself to earn first place in each event, just like you would (or have) in many of the Burnout games.
I dunno. Once you get past the graphics and grow accustomed to the controls, I think it's a lot of fun *shrug*

According to the *unreliable* VGChartz, The Darkness sold over 500k units on the 360 alone. Total sales could have exceeded a million by now.
I motion that we disqualify it from this category.

Sales don't really mean anything, honestly. How many people are really talking about it? How often does it come up when people talk about games they need to get for their new systems? How many people bought The Darkness and were the same people who also bought Carnival Games?
I bought The Darkness when I got a PS3, but to be honest: It was only because at the time, there wasn't jack to choose from. Now that both the PS3 and 360 have massive libraries of games, there is very little chance that The Darkness will even be considered by anyone who is just now joining the game.

According to VGChartz, Bionic Commando sold less than 500k units. Whilst at its full RRP I would have never recommended it, its bargain bin price tag nowadays is well worth it. The game feels fresh in parts, but the overall experience isn't so. Is it a hidden gem, or just a mismarketed pile of mediocrity?

Considering I see it for 10 bucks new I'd say it's probably worth the cash even if it turns out mediocre.
Re: Current gen hidden gems
I've picked it up and played a few minutes of it, and I quite liked it. It's more a throwback to the survival horror titles from a decade ago, and it utilizes similar controls and graphics. In fact, those were the two biggest criticisms of the game I saw, which meant it's right up my alley. Plot wise, I've heard it compared to Twin Peaks quite a bit (I went out and bought the Season 1 DVD...have to pick up the movie now), and the few in game videos I watched were strange enough to be intriguing, yet creepy at the same time.Pulsar_t wrote:
Anyone tried Deadly Premonition? It's a huge flop, but some say it fits in the "so bad it's good" category.

I'm not sure it was great. I played it on PC and enjoyed my romp through it, but it didn't really do anything particularly new or great. It was competand and fun, but I dunno if it was a gem. Hidden yes probably. Being familiar with the comics probably helped it have more weight for me.Quiet Flight wrote:Rouge Trooper: Great 3rd person shooter.

Re: Current gen hidden gems
It completely is a hidden gem. I found it to be an extremely enjoyable single player game from start to finish with a wonderful soundtrack to match, Hell, I haven't even touched the multiplayer and I hear that's where the real fun is at.Pulsar_t wrote:

Completely overlooked title in my opinoin.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?
