I think we have several threads covering how a lot of people had trouble with Sonic Adv.. The Wii is just as reliable as the Dreamcast. Now Gamecube to me is the least disc based console prone to error, you can even throw it down from your roof and there's a good chance it will work, I don't recommend anyone trying that though. A friend of mine got mad and threw his Dreamcast out the window and it shattered.
One way to finish a hard level in a game, I guess. :?

All the current Gens do have the bad reputation of reliability with PS3 and 360 being the far worst. Agree, Dreamcast does have some drive problems but not near as the current Monopoly Big 3. Online updates don't help the average unknowing consumer either. Just like the U.S Automotive industry, a jump start to innovation by another competitor, this time an old returning foe. Though very likely will never happen, a reliable console would be Sega's strongest sale point, to get back in the game so to speak.

I would just like SEGA to know, just in case thier marketing dudes are lurking around...

If SEGA releases any kind of hardware... I WILL buy 10X off! Please release something that doesn't toaly suck, like maybe shinmue 3??? It doesn't take a genious to figure out they would make a bomb from it.

*ahem*

excuse me

Please continue fellow gamers *ahem*

You seriously think Shenmue 3 would do well? I mean, I'm pretty sure every Shenmue fan here knows and acknowledges that it's a niche game and there just aren't that many people interested in it.

Heh. I assumed he was not a native English speaker and meant to say that Shenmue 3 would bomb.

I think that if SEGA wanted to make another go at Shenmue, their best bet would be to re-release the first two games on the cheap as budget titles on the Wii. I don't know how hard a port that would be, but I suspect it could be accomplished. No graphical updates or anything. Do a simultaneous release with a possible discount for buying both games at the same time.

I think it has the potential (particularly the second one) to have a wider appeal than it did initially, but it would be stupid to come out with such a story-intensive sequel given how few people played part 2.

Current Gens no need to throw. That will come after the eventual Bricking Fail. Everything breaks, but are you kidding Big 3? A guaranteed to break or brick? Sega should really take advantage of this and introduce that Dreamcast 2 Naomi" without all the Firmware headaches.

Lies! Slander! I will acknowledge no such thing!

*breaks down crying*

Aw, its true. Shenmue 3 would tank. A man can dream though.

A rerelease of 1 and 2 on a current system would be good. Another way would be through graphic novels maybe to at least finish the story and explain things. Or if the hope was generating revenue to properly finish the series than maybe a prologue or back story, art books, history/making of. Products that the fans would be interested in and would buy. Maybe market them as an introduction into the series in hopes of bringing new fans in.

I think if Shenmue 2 had been on the PS2 it would have sold more. Not sure would a Shenmue 1 and 2 rerelease should go to this generation. I think it would be "too hardcore" for the Wii. I just mean that in terms of sales. Those market of games has struggled. Really anything not first party has struggled. I'm not sure if Shenmue 2 works on the Xbox 360, but depending on that it might be better to put them together on the PS3. Since the sony gamers haven't had their turn with Shenmue yet.

Certainly the bulk of the 10 launch games from Atari Corp. were older titles - they were after all titles done in '84. But with Nintendo's lockup of both licenses and development studios (if you developed for Nintendo you couldn't develop for another console), Atari Corp. didn't have much of a choicet during the January '86 re-release. Remember this is a completely different company than Atari Inc. (the previous Atari), they didn't have an in-house development group, no arcade division to leverage new in-house titles off of either. Nintendo and Sega of course had both. Katz tried to alleviate the licensing and development wall by going for titles that were formerly computer only games (Choplifter, Impossible Mission, Summer Games, Winter Games, etc.)
the too late re-release 7800 against Nintendo NES.
I hope you're not referring to the myth about the 7800 being dusted off in response to the NES. That simply was not the case. I'd refer you to my article for RetroGamer Magazine from this past year for the full story of what happened.

Is there a gaming site that DOESN'T have a thread about Sega's return to the console market? What is it with you fanboys that you don't understand? Sega themselves have made it quite clear and to the point that they are a software manufacturer only. We all want a new Sega console, but spreading rumors doesn't help that any.

Sega plays host to some of my favorite hardware of all time but I really don't feel there's any room for them in that market anymore.
