I've been pretty fortunate to not encounter kids/homophobes/niggerbashers on the servers I play, but I do get them sometimes. That's probably because I play PC games, an audience that has more adults than teens. Most of the time for it it just comes off as confusing. How am I a nigger? I'm white. I'm just really glad for admin controls and muting. You want some comedy during your TF2 session? Pay attention to some dude who enters the server and starts fucking with the admin.

I haven't encountered this a in a long time, but when it happens...
I fucking hate it when dipshits exploit the game to cause lag or to crash the server or other shit like that. Remember Block Land back when it was free? There'd be guys who'd do nothing but build tall towers. What's wrong with that? They cause lag, giving them the name "Lag Tower", that really pissed me off. I'd be in the middle of a conversation/joint building when these assbrains cause so much lag, that no one can do anything. These guys would also take the hammers and smash your buildings. When you do it to them in return, they spam the chat box.

I'd advise against playing SFIV online, it is an exercise in futility. The vast majority of players are cocky douchebags, the other 9% are whiny shitbags, and the remaining 1% of players are actually normal people who just want to have fun without learning every single million hit combo in the game.

I stopped playing games online mostly for this reason. I use to play Half Life 2 Deathmatch alot. Half since it was alot of fun trying to kill everyone with toliets and crowbars, and half since it ran really well on my then gaming computer. I had to stop when I went an entire night without finding a decent server not filled with people with expletive filled vocal vomit.

For a time I messed with them: they would say that I was gay so I would play on that. I remember one kid who kept saying how manly he was that he bagged all of our mothers the night before and how we were all gay. I countered with that it wasnt my mother, it was really me and that he was one of the worst Ive been with ever. He logged off shortly after.

Then I started muting people, but that gets old when you do it to most people on the server. So instead of getting riled up about it, I just stopped playing. If the game has voice chat built in, I typically dont play it online. Rarely I will make the exception, even with friends.

Ive found that older games have less issues. Ive never had this problem playing Descent. Getting a kill on the other hand...

You can mainly just develop thicker skin. When people are anonymous they tend to be crueler than they would face-to-face.

Heaving monitoring isn't the way to fix it; I remember getting a temporary ban from WoW because I said the word "ass" to the wrong guy. He took it as a threat and I got a ban.

Word filtering isn't really a solution either; when someone says "**** you, you stupid *** ****," you still get the gist and nothing's been fixed. Besides, you can still flame someone without using explicit curse words.

I just ignore them and go on my happy way. It makes me mad sometimes, but what can you do? Flame back? Doesn't do any good.
