"I could name countless instances where I have had to defend my video game honor against the stone cold rejection of my wife. I needn't go into that- because if you are a retro gamer in a significant relationship with one who just doesn't understand the allure of video games, than you understand."
LOL. This is the story of my life and my girl is only my g/f of 5 years... not my wife. Its just something we have to learn to live with. Sometimes this kind of situation can be a good thing, because its nice to have your own unique thing and your own time and place to enjoy it!

SNES vs. Genesis/Mario vs. Sonic was our generation's Vietnam. The scars will never fully heal.Oh my God, I went through the Mario vs. Sonic hell with my ex-girlfriend. Hahaha, it cracks me up because it really shouldn't be an issue anymore... I'm a grown-up.

Thats why god invented the night time and early morning. I dont think I have had a proper nights sleep in (Thinks how long I have been with my girl) 2 odd years.
Its not so much that she minds me playing Videogames or collecting them, or taking up the lounge, etc I think its more she is bored if I am playing them.
Who cares anyway, the penis is the greatest joystick ever created, the games you play with it have the best response.

True, but you can only play with a penis for so long.emwearz wrote:Thats why god invented the night time and early morning. I dont think I have had a proper nights sleep in (Thinks how long I have been with my girl) 2 odd years.

Sex feels better than video games, sure. But what are you gonna do for the times you aren't having sex? Why not play video games like crazy, take a short break for sex, then go back to video games? Instead of comparing orgasms to playing video games, try comparing all the non-sexual things that are part of a relationship, to playing video games, and I think you will change your tune.
That's why I suggest only having sex and never having a relationship. It's win/win.
tl;dr
Video games = good
Sex = good
Relationships = bad
It's not that complicated people. Don't over-think this. You can have your pie and eat it too.

And current Sega fans have Vietnam Syndrome! This analogy works perfectly!MrPopo wrote:SNES vs. Genesis/Mario vs. Sonic was our generation's Vietnam. Sex with or without a relationship makes no difference there. If you are arguing for no sex whatsoever, you have a point.Mr.White555 wrote:Until you get a STD right?Inazuma wrote: That's why I suggest only having sex and never having a relationship. It's win/win.

Seriously, anyone who can't see that people have their hobbies and interests should keep their opinion to themselves. I'm sure your wife has her own irrational purchases, and that's fine. Each to their own.
My wife and I have totally different tastes. In fact when it comes to most things, we're cheese and chalk. However the one thing we both get is that the other has their own unique interests and tastes. She compulsively collects certain things that I don't understand, and I have my video games. But neither of us comments on the other's little obsessions. We both get that we are different.
And that's why I married her. Not for what we had in common, but the fact that we were OK with each other's differences. And I'm yet to find another couple who "have heaps in common" who are nearly as happy and fulfilled as we are together.
Re: Video Games--VERSUS--Wife, FIGHT!
I totally hid the game obsession from my wife when we dated, as I didn't have the time/money to invest in it anyway. She knew I liked games and all, but thought it was probably just a "normal" amount.
She continues to find out how much of a nerd I am as we grow older together. Good thing she (usually) finds my nerdiness to be "cute." But I am always learning new things about her too, so it keeps it interesting and fresh.
Besides, we determined the other day that she has most likely spent more time playing picross and picross 3D on the DS than I have spent with my PSP or 360 combined. So it turned out that she was a closet gaming geek as well, even if she didn't yet know it.
