Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

My freshman year in undergrad I consecutively dated two girls named Katie Kelly. Odd coincidence right? Anywho, the first Katie Kelly I dated, and was madly in love with (until my dumb ass cheated on her) looked similar to:

She actually had a job at Crabtree mall in Raleigh as one of Santa's elves.

My wife is also kind of pixie-ish.

Man, come to think of it, I think 90% of the girls I've dated or slept with were under 110 lbs. and under 5'5".

Now the script pales in comparison to the effects, which makes the script seem worse than it is (it's an ok story, not great), but there has been no other movie where I have so felt like I was IN that new world.
Can't really reply to that. You pretty much said what I thought of the film. (SFX taking a back seat to good story, mainly)

I guess the only thing I can say is that I couldn't get immersed in the movie. The score was... eh. Every time something whimsical or magical happened, there was something to break the mood (mainly the chick Na'vi making creature noises). There was too much... WTHF in the movie as well. I mean, why the hell do the Na'vi hiss? Why the hell do the Na'vi have a literal connection with Pandora? (seriously, they connect with their horses with their hair) Why are there floating mountains? I'm in the majority on this one, James Cameron could've at least come up with some half-assed excuse. Why couldn't James Cameron have done Terminator 3/Salvaion and Alien 3/Resurrection instead?

This is not a bad movie by any means. I like the Mecha with the giant knife, even though it's useless in real life situations. The entire final battle was fantasic. It was exciting, it focused on all of the main protagonists (although it did kill most), and well, the giant knife. :P I'm actually thinking of seeing the film again just so I can see it again. (last time I had a bad seat for the 3D, so it was sub par)

I think Avatar will have what I call the "Halo effect". The people who found it average or mediocre are going to say they hate it out of their frustration that it's so overrated.
Dances with Wolves? That's what everyone is saying, but I think a much better comparison would be "Ferngully", only not as good. That's right.

The "Halo Effect" may come into play with some people, but not with me. I was seriously bored through the entire film. If I wasn't afraid that my wife was enjoying the movie (she wasn't), I would have walked out after the first half-hour or so.

The story wasn't great. I wasn't expecting it to be. I knew the story was going to be rather heavy-handed and simple, and would essentially be a propaganda film. My problem was just that it wasn't told well. A movie doesn't have to have a great or complex story if it's told well. Look as "Apocalypto." Few films have a story as simple as that one, yet it's very well told and engaging.

This film was deader than "The DaVinci Code".
