Also, as for World of Warcraft - I know a girl that plays that game almost religiously. Her avatar? Skank-tastic. Sometimes, women enjoy playing the sexpot.

You only read the mainstream stuff, and so you form your opinion based solely on that? How do you think the mainstream stuff gets mainstream? Not by showing fully-clothed, modestly-dressed women, I can tell you that.

yeah, I will agree with you on part 1.

about your second comment, what I meant is that, just as I read the mainstream stuff, most people will just read the mainstream stuff, and will form the same opinion. yeah I'm sure there are a lot of powerful women characters in many manga, but it's just that they don't get the same coverage as the manga who have weak women.

and I said the mainstream thing in a way meaning "yeah I can't have a good, full sided opinion on this matter, but many people are probably going to make the same mistake, and the medium gets this stigma". and really you can't expect the audience to go out and read every single manga, to find one with a good female lead. but you can expect the manga writers to implement one.

Because the target audience and most of the artists are men, and men like hot women. It's really nothing more insideous than that. It has nothing to do with sexism or women's rights or anything else. It's simply that drawing women like that is hot, and guys like looking at it.

Why is everyone else dressed, and the girl is like that?
I think she has the epic gear, which has 20% resistance damage to fire and to raise her ability to be hit on by every race in the game.

The skimpier the outfit, the more HP and armor the character has, but that also equals to muscles and loincloths as well. I thought everyone knew this  .

yeah but that way of thinking is kind of killing their sales.

the biggest comic in Europe, is asterix, and with only 33 albums ever made, it still keeps on selling really good, because it's made for ALL ages, and I mean that. When I was a kid I laughed at the beating up humor, when I was a teenager I laughed at the puns, and now that I'm older I laugh at it's parody of modern life.

My 50 year old mother, no even my 70 year old grandfather read asterix. cause it's made with something for everyone.

on the other hand, while my mother likes watching the super hero movies, and some of the cartoons (mostly DC ones, well they are better made than the marvel ones) she can't even touch a super hero comic. because they are made with just men in mind, while the cartoons and the movies are made with everyone in mind.

and one last question. if you currently like comic books, would you stop reading them if they didn't have hot women in thongs?

Only their potential sales. To bring up a parallel, from the period of about 1998 through 2006 the vast majority of video games were designed for the demographic of males 15-35. There were several companies all competing in the market and all showing a profit.

Then in 2006 Nintendo decided to target all the people who weren't in the "standard" video game demographic. And they made shittons of money off it. But all the other companies who were still targeting the original "gamer" demographic were still making a profit.

That's why the comics feel no need to expand their target audience. The current one is good enough for them to make money.

That said, Asterix is awesome. So is Scrooge McDuck.

absolutely. I always loved the comics, cause scrooge had all these strange gadgets to protect his fortune. also I remember him in one story, he was taking a bath in his actual bathtub, and money would come out of the fosset instead of water. hilarious

This is why I have two Don Rosa signed prints of Scrooge McDuck over the door to my office. Sadly they will never release more than a couple of compilations of the old comics. So reading all the stories is prohibitively expensive.
