Haha Strider?! and Zelda? You have terrible taste. You lose. Thanks for playing though.Mr.White555 wrote:World of FUCKING warcraft! I hate that shit with a passion.... And the O so fun point and click rpg games(excluding fallout 1 &2).
Counterstrike: I like valves games but this one makes no sense to me why so many people play this "realistic shooter". I feel like I am playing Hogan's alley!
Speaking of realistic shooters The console Rainbow Six games(las vegas). Goddammit give a new REAL Rainbow 6 FPS like RB6:3!
Strider for Gen: This game is a piece of shit. The sound is awful. The controls suck. The game has frame rate issues. The only thing that kept me playing was the ridiculous and hilarious boss fights.
And not to forget Zelda. The games have virtually no appeal to me.

I am sure strider was good and all for a game in 89 but it is terrible now. I'll take Revenge of Shinobi over it a 1000 times.KholdStare wrote:Haha Strider?! and Zelda? You have terrible taste. God forbid I don't have a hard on for the Zelda series. The protagonist is rescuing a princess that is more masculine then himself. I swear some fucking crying game shit is going on in those games. I mean if you are into that sort of thing then thats fine.
Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
Which strider game? I thought there were a couple for genesis and it's a series that I can't keep straight (much like wonderboy). I had one where you started off in a forest and then went into a factory type area. I don't remember it being very good.
I also recently got one for nes that feels really buggy.

Team Fortress 2
I am a huge fan of the Fortress Series and consider Team Fortress Classic one of the greatest games of all time. However TF2 was spitting in my face. I joined on to TFC before the Counter Strike craze, back when TFC was one of the most played games online. Then after September 11th 2001 people wanted to kill terrorist so Counter Strike took over and TFC kinda fell to the wayside. There were still a lot of games to be had, but I remember my list going from 1000s of servers to 100s of servers in a few months. TFC was always the warhorse, even Quake Team Fortress and Weapons Factory Arena were not competition for it in my eyes. The only game to break my TFC addiction was UT2k3 (later UT2k4). But even now I still find myself going back to playing TFC. The skill used in some of the trick videos still amazes me – Last Dinosaur 2 on google video, sick, just sick.
So why does this mean I hate TF2. Well when the source engine SDK’s hit a team started making a successor to TFC called Fortress Forever. It was an update to TFC with some neat new features. I jumped on the chance to be in the Beta, got to play it, and despite not having 2 Fort, it was great. Sure it was different, but that is what we wanted - a natural progression of the series. Skills that I honed in the countless hours of TFC were still applicable, though needed work from the new physics engine and balances. Well FF had been in development publicly for two or three years then when they finally announce a release date, Valve says “oh yeah, Team Fortress 2, you know that game some of yall have been waiting for since 99 when we said it was going to be released, it comes out October 10th, but if you preorder you can get it sooner” forcing the FF team to put out their game before the TF2 preorder beta or else they would fall to the wayside. Despite putting out an excellent product, TF2 took the show.
Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the humor, style, and the fact that a Fortress game is in the limelight. However I really hate the gameplay changes. Several core facets to the game, ie Conc jumping for scouts/medic and disease for medic, have been taken out. And considering I was a damn good Conc jumper, it meant the game did a 90 degree turn from what it use to be. Sure this put most everyone at square one and leveled the playing field, but taking out most of the core elements of competitive TFC to make the game more newbie friendly was poor form and makes me hate the game.
Sure that sounds petty, but that’s kinda what this topic is about.

Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
^I understand you and it's good to see a well-written post on that instead of "Melee > Brawl".
I think TF2 is strictly better than TFC from a neutral view but if you like certain things then I can see why you like TFC more.
For example, most agree that no grenades is very good. I remember not liking it at all in TFC. However you may like it and thus your focus is changed. It's not the same thing as "bad controls", it's akin to dungeon crawling and more complex RPGs. Most agree the newer RPGs are better but you may like crawling to death.
I don't think most of the changes are to make the game more "newbie-friendly" but overall changes to the game so as to improve it. I tried to play TFC with my friends back when it was popular and we didn't like most things that later were removed or changed in TF2. I tried to like it because it was good game but I didn't. I respect it thought.
I may be biased since I think TF2 is almost perfect and has only small flaws. Perhaps a bit of balance here and there but that's all. It's an AAA title for me and I don't see adding TFC elements in the game helping to improve it. It would be cool to have some things like infection but when you have fire it's redundant to have more effects and the medic is already a very good class in TF2, all it needs is the Syringe Gun at the same level as the Blutsauger, IMHO.
Don't hate the sequel, though. Dislike it but don't hate it unless it's a bad game.

Mouse and keyboard is the proper way to play an FPS. Wiimote and chuck is a decent substitute, but mouse and keyboard is still king.CAv wrote:ouch man. I don't really like Strider either. It's a game I'd like to like but it feels stiff and clumsy to me. I don't like the sound much either.KholdStare wrote:Haha Strider?! and Zelda? You have terrible taste. You lose. Thanks for playing though.
I like Zelda, though.
Another game I would like to like but wasn't able to get into is Mario 64. It seems like a game I could like, but I always found it rather tedious.
Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
Norris, I wouldnt hate it if the guys who play it now did not try to act all high and mighty to me when I try to play it with them, or even talk to them. At a friends birthday party, I was talking to a friend of mine about TFC when this guy joined in. When he realized we werent talking about TF2 he went off on us about this and that. Then when I rebutted with examples like I posted earlier, he said I was wrong and that I dont know what makes a good game. Sure, there are extremist all around, but Ive ran into ALOT of them for TF2, many more rabbid than CS and StarCraft fans.
Then again, apart from FFVII, it is the only game out that I really dont like that everyone else loves. Most games I am indifferent to, but TF2 made Valve look like EA and not the company they were in the late 90s. Like how EA bought the NFL license and killed off the superior Sega Sports 2k series, Valve dropped TF2 and killed FF.

Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
You know, it's pretty easy to just instantly jump in with something like Halo or FFVII when it comes to topics like this. I can guarantee you though, most people who dislike those games have very little context to base their opinions on and probably have never experienced these games for more than a few moments of play. They are popular and were hyped, so they must instantly be bad right? That's the "code" of the hardcore gamer right? It's just a gaming snobs fall back. These people are like the moon landing conspiracy theorists, they just can't let it go. Make claims all you want, but these games hit and they made a huge impact on the industry. It's done, get over it. Find something else to be your whipping boy for once.
I can tell you from personal experience, I've been burned by games hyped by my gaming peers far more often than games hyped by the media. Odin Sphere, Disgaea, Psychonuats and anything with "Shin Megami Tensai" in the title come to mind. I'll take FFVII or Halo over any of these, any day of the week.
