Why do you favor the Windows OS?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The funny thing about Mac ads is that they claim that Macs are so much fun, yet Windows is really the only way to go for gaming.

Some people have more fun being creative than playing games.

...which is why Windows also happens to support all sorts of software that allows you to be creative...much more than Mac OS does, in fact.

Sheesh, when my friend's sister got her MacBook, every middle aged woman that was there was playing with the picture frames on iSight. The raucous laughter that came out was enough to scare anyone. ;_;

But mac os has the top of the industry standard software that every major movie studio and record recording company uses. Plus mac software is a whole lot easier to use.

So, you need to be part of a major movie studio in order to be creative? Please, don't force me to die laughing. And Mac software being easier to use is a matter of opinion. There are far too many variables and software packages to consider when comparing Windows and Mac software in terms of ease-of-use. Plus, there are many apps that're available on both platforms, and I'm sure that there's no significant difference between those. Really, there's no user interface that's easier to use for everyone.

No but if you want the best of the best for creating music and movies osx is the way to go other than that windows is the way to go.

Sorry to break this to you, but you don't need specific software to be the "best of the best" at anything. Software doesn't make projects; people make projects. I've seen some pretty amazing stuff done in MS Paint and some serious crap made in Photoshop.

The limited hardware works in their favour, systems are more stable and more reliable. I never have kernal panics on my Mac apart from when my RAM started to fail, I drove to the Apple store and had it fixed, free of charge while I waited. Tell me when you could ever do that with a Windows PC.

More and more games are getting Mac versions. I think the only games that don't tend to get OS X versions are FPS. Pretty much every game made by EA on PC get's a OS X version. Some games like Spore or The Sims 3 have both versions on the same disc. It's simply not true to state that OS X doesn't play games, it does, it's just not every single software developer has got on board yet.
I'm sorry. are you kidding me?

About point 1, I disagree, because if all computer's were like that, a cheapest computer would cost a ton of money, and not every household would be able to afford one. That is also one of the main reasons (choosing your own parts, to make the machine, that is) that the PC as a platform became the number 1 type of computer in the world. But since the mac ain't going to be overthrowing the pc from it's throne, any time soon, I don't care. Waste your money all you like.

And really about point 2..... are you kidding me? Not only most games DON'T come out on the mac, but even when they do come out, they cost more, play worse, and are not supported.
I don't think you understood what I was saying at all. Less hardware configurations means more compatibility. Simple as. It means the software is more stable and can run faster because it is optimized further. That is a fact. It's nothing you can debate over.

Yes there is an added cost with macs, but you get a very nice piece of hardware that looks great and functions great also. Just you try and find a laptop or anything remotely close to an Macbook Pro or iMac for the money. You can't. You can get close but it's still nowhere near as nice.

kevinski, by your argument Windows 7 should be a service pack too but it's not and offers no more changes than the upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. You clearly don't use macs so you wouldn't know how big a change Leopard was. That amount of extra functionality I had no qualms about paying £35. I wish I could pay that little for Windows upgrades.

I use my Windows rig for gaming. That's it. A little word processing every now and then but I don't do anything productive because I know for a fact that I can get the job done ten times quicker on my Mac. I use my mac for Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio. You can't get these programs for Windows, although to be honest. I don't think I'd want them. They work very well on mac and I even prefer Pro Tools on Mac too, a sizeable amount of users in my field (audio technology) feel the same way too. Studio after studio that I go into are all running Mac Pro's. I wonder why that is?

Most major movie studios use Avid, which is PC. For music, protools is available on both mac and pc.

Final Cut is widely used but if you don't want that there's not much else you need a mac for.
