I don't remember anything about a two disc set - I assume this was with the collector's edition of the PC version?
I do remember playing the old school stages and hearing the remixes that way. Honestly I didn't care much for the remixes, but I appreciated the effort. I assume they probably couldn't have just used the originals since A.Brandon and Van Den Bos don't work with Epic anymore.

Actually they are more like high quality remakes rather than remixes. You should listen to them again. I cant imagine anyone who's a fan of the original not appreciating the new versions. They have the same vibe, but they just sound better. They go beyond the limitations of the module format UT99 used, as much as I love mod music.
