My Japanese console collection (so far)
Re: My Japanese console collection (so far)
I am guessing all you retro gamers in Japan were there either studying or teaching english. If you couldn't tell, most of us here in the West are drooling at your collection. If you were teaching english, did you buy this on your budget of did you have a savings that you used.
Re: My Japanese console collection (so far)
Not everyone here teaches English. But, this was definitely done without using too much money. I listed the prices of each console in this thread. Considering that the games probably cost at least the same or more, it's not too much money all things considered.GamerMON wrote:I am guessing all you retro gamers in Japan were there either studying or teaching english. Is that a VII?
Re: My Japanese console collection (so far)
A 7? A Vii? What? I've never heard of either of these things being a Japanese console.ShadicChao wrote:Is that a VII?

I've only ever seen a Vii on websites like Kotaku! That's Chinese junk.IcKy99 wrote:i think he mistakes that modem under your TV as a bootleg Wii or (Vii)Breetai wrote:A 7? A Vii? What? I've never heard of either of these things being a Japanese console.ShadicChao wrote:Is that a VII?
You're right about that being a modem... it's just a plain old ADSL wireless modem. Very useful for internet, but it doesn't play games very well. Then again, does the Vii play games well?

I teach English at an elementary school. I don't make tons of money so I buy most of my stuff here on a tight budget.GamerMON wrote:I am guessing all you retro gamers in Japan were there either studying or teaching english. Most Saturn games i pick up go for between 50 and 400 yen. Most places have these games in boxes you have to dig through. The stores see these older games as junk and would love to clear them out for newer stuff. I pick up a Saturn game about every 3 weeks because of all the spontainious sales I find at recycle shops like Hardoff/Bookoff. Bookoff specializes in selling books but they carry software too, and they typically let software go a lot cheaper than their specialized brother Hardoff. I suspect it also matters what neighborhood you're in too.
Older systems can be found for really cheap at recycle shops that don't know the actual value of the systems they have or the systems were never checked which gets them an automatic label of "junk." 90 percent of the hardware I picked up was in the junk category. I find white Saturns (unboxed) for 200 yen on average. Most are in pretty decent shape but I also find many that should be recycled in those scrap yards in India. As for Dreamcasts, PS2s, PS1s, FCs, etc. It all depends on the week/month and how many people have dropped off their stuff.
I set my spending limit pretty low because I know I can come across most stuff for way under what most people online ask for (on Japanese auction sites like Yahoo/Rakuten.) So far this has worked very well for me. I may eventually start selling some games on the side if I get enough friends asking for it. I think the biggest reason for import markups is the cost of shipping between US/Japan or anywhere else you guys live. Shipping sucks, especially if you want your stuff shippped within a week.

Well if you ever do go full-time selling games and stuff on the side (Besides that stuff we talked about) here on RB you've already got a guaranteed customer!Upsidedown Fuji wrote:I teach English at an elementary school. Cool ModMan. I will probably buy extra stuff on the side and sell it off. If people have requests, I will try to follow up on them. But since the market is so varied in what I can get, I can't promise much.
I'll also be getting back to you on those MDs soon. I just need to check up on a few more stores in my area.
