The End of The Analog Era.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Ok guys, just how do you watch tv in America?
honestly like no one here(Bahrain) has analogue tv any more.

Every one has a big round concave piece of metal , we call it a dish and then you wire it to a receiver which is an electronic box that takes in that signal and organize them into channels.

I thought every one in the world is on that boat with America more advanced with Tivo and the likes.
Or is analogue really still the main stream thing, do you still have an antenna and you have to move it around to get different channels?

Cable is the man way about 60% of people (including myself) get their TV here in the states, but about 20mil. people still watch TV through Analog antenna.

What I'm trying to do is chronicle one of the most significant events in human history marking the full entrance of the digital television age while letting the Analog one go out with a bang.

We have Satellite dishes in America too, but cable is more common. One common issue over hre is that whenever a house changes ownership multiple times, the new owners have to deal with previous owners' tv setups, so it's not uncommon to see a house with three dishes on the side from three different tv providers, a large analog antenna bolted to the roof. In fact, I get cable at my house, but there's a Direct TV dish mounted in the back corner of the roof.

Hack the dish man. Use it for your wifi.

All my stations quit at 9am today. Too bad I had to leave for work just 15 minutes before that. Would have been cool to see.

Just did a channel search. ABC channel 9 is still going, but its just a loop of a DTV informational thing, probably to clue the remaining idiots in on why the rest of the stations are gone. Other than that, a home shopping network remains. And some faint signal from a Wichita station on channel 8 remains.

I missed the fox shutdown because I was hanging out with the family. The last remaining network still broadcasting regular TV where I'm at is the local spanish-speaking network.

I gave up on the spanish channel. Couldn't understand anything beyond the occasional Toyota commercial, and I had no idea when it was going down. :(
