Using one outlet to rule them all is not a good way to go about it.
As others have said, i usually start with Wiki and YouTube to find out out more, then Metacritic to see how it fares. I click through on a couple reviews that like the game, a couple that are middling and a couple that don't seem to like it - mostly trusted sites, which differs for everyone. I skim for the good stuff. I personally "trust" 1UP reviews most, but that doesn't mean I'd buy or not buy based on their opinion. I just have followed their podcasts for a while so I feel like I know what kinds of games many of their writers like, so I can ID with certain ones. It's just like movie reviews - you find someone who generally shares your tastes.
