Your all time favorite video game???
Re: Your all time favorite video game???
Hmm..Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I bought way back in 2000 and played it every day until my disc died on me, and I'm not paying 67 dollars for a game i bought for 30 :[

People need to start giving some more thorough, "why's". I'm seeing some titles being dropped that are boggling my mind.
Are nostalgia, and multiple-playthroughs really all that a game need to provide to make them your favourite?

Very interesting choices. As for me, Doom is still the one (although to be honest I don't play it anymore).

Favorites are just that, favorite games. There are many reasons a game might be my personal favorite, nostalgia, fun-factor, story... You name it.RemyC wrote:People need to start giving some more thorough, "why's". I'm seeing some titles being dropped that are boggling my mind.

You also have to remember that nobody has played every game ever made, so someone NOT including a game might just be because they haven't yet played it.
It's not as if someone has listed "Noah's Ark 3D" or some other equally horrid game as their favorite.
Systems: Atari 2600, Atari Jaguar, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Genesis 3, Genesis 2, 32X, Sega CD (model 2), Saturn (model 1), Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox (Modded), Xbox 360, GameBoy, GBA SP, Game Gear, PSP... always adding more

Favourites are definitely all about preference, but when a bad game is someones favourite, it would be nice to know why.DuManchu wrote:Favorites are just that, favorite games. I know a lot of horrid games, that still have a nostalgia factor tied to them...they arent my favourite game though (because they're horrid). So their must be something else tied to these games that people are mentioning.
What does everyone see in the Sonic Adventure games? I played the hell out of the first one, when I was little (I had just about every single emblem), so their is tons of nostalgia tied to it, but I play it now, and it feels so broken.
...So I'd like to know if everyone else just tries extremely hard to look past these factors...or if the nostalgia is just that beautiful to them.

RealMyst. Hands down. The sense of exploration is something that is almost essential in any video game for me. All the Myst games fulfill that need faster and more easily then hot chicks give me a boner. Couple that with the astounding setting/atmosphere you get when playing that game and you have an all-time winner for me.

i agree that myst is one of the best games... computer wise it is my favorite. its so easy to become completely immersed, especially if you hear the music and sound fx through a good set of speakers... as for the boner thing... nah i cant agree there...

Just to set something straight, Myst doesn't give me a boner. I was saying that it fulfills the exploration aspect better then a hot chick gives me a boner.vash23n wrote:i agree that myst is one of the best games... computer wise it is my favorite. its so easy to become completely immersed, especially if you hear the music and sound fx through a good set of speakers... as for the boner thing... nah i cant agree there...

Final Fantasy 6. I'll tell you why.
It was my first introduction to RPGs, as well as to Steampunk. For a long while in my life, the RPG would dominate my opinions on games. Steampunk is just cool.
It is one of the few games with music that has an emotional impact upon me. Many of the tracks are simply so mournful and haunting that I have to fight the urge to weep just listening to the first few bars of their .midi files. I'm not kidding either.
It's story was complex, presented from the viewpoints of multiple characters, open to interpretation at points, and presented something that few games have truly done: present an enemy that I genuinely despise and loathe. At first, Kefka appears to be mainly a joke, but his antics quickly reveal him as the disturbed and psychotic lunatic with a bent towards global domination and the slow destruction of everything. Since then, most Final Fantasies have either made the villain seem somehow innocent, or so remotely alien as to be removed from my thoughts. Kefka is pure evil with a cracked mind and the resources to do real damage.
I also like that not all characters get their time to shine. There's a large, vibrant, and rather different cast, in terms of ability, appearance, and personality, and there's much we never get to know. And I've never had a problem with that, because how realistic is it to discover absolutely everything about every one of your friends? Gogo was excellent as a mystery. I get more joy out of contemplating the rumor that Gogo may be Darryl than I would actually knowing it. I don't need every character spelled out for me.
The art direction was amazing. No game has been able to impress me with the enemy design since then. I actually enjoy contemplating why my party must look like to the enemy.
I love the run through plot to suddenly an incredibly open-ended world where I can do so many things and have access to so much, and in a relatively short time. This allowed me to do what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it, and I thank Square for it.
Finally, the combat system was nice. The magic system was easily my favorite of the series, and frankly has yet to be surpassed for me in just about any JRPG I've played. I greatly enjoyed the pause feature, and while I feel the multiplayer is a little gimmicky, I still really love the concept. All in all, Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite game, not just of the Final Fantasy series, or of RPGs in general, but of all games I have ever played at any time.
