turns out if you have nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon, Shin Megami Tensei IV is a really easy way to kill 4 hours.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV
obviously a lot can happen in the next four months, but SMT IV is certainly a strong contender for my GOTY 2013.
So anyway, I just finished up that side-quest where you have to kill 'the Corpses.' If I recall, my MC just hit LVL 27 - though it might be 28. I leveled up quite a few times this past weekend. And because I have like a dozen demons w/ me at this point, there's this constant tiny rush of endorphins being released in me since almost every battle or two seems to end with one or two of my demons leveling up.
Was sad that I had to fuse my Mothman. That's one tough decision in this game - keep a demon that you're comfortable/happy with or take the chance that you can fuse them into something even better?

Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV
I always 'take a chance'. Especially if their resistances, repels, etc. work to my advantage. Besides, I can always get the old demon back via compendium. Stakes aren't really that big provided you've saved some cash.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV
I have been trying to figure out if I would like this game or not. I have never played a SMT game or any of its dizzying variants/spinoffs.
Would someone be kind enough to give me the basic rundown on the game, what it's like, etc? All the reviews I have read seem to assume you already know all the basics of what the series is about...
Thanks!

Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV
As far as I can tell, this is how Megaten games work:
Read some bizarre dialogue, read a tutorial, enter first dungeon, limp out the first dungeon with one character with 4 HP left.
Read some bizarre dialogue, recruit demons to your party, fuse demons into different demons, explore a dungeon, fight a boss, limp out with one character with 10 HP left.
SMTIV is like any other JRPG you've played, but more and faster and harder. In dungeons, it's all about the long game. You plan carefully, making sure you have enough resources to get through and defeat the boss. The individual encounters are more complex and challenging, and there's an interesting mechanic that lets you earn more turns when you get a critical hit.
Demon fusion and skill inheritance take the place of standard, boring equipment upgrades.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV
I would agree with you. This and Fire Emblem: Awakening would top my list. The Last of Us is really good and I enjoyed it quite a lot. But, it also embodies a lot of the things I tend to dislike in modern games, which makes it hard for me to speak too highly of it.noiseredux wrote:obviously a lot can happen in the next four months, but SMT IV is certainly a strong contender for my GOTY 2013.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV
Fire Emblem Awakening is one I'd def like to pick up, but I won't bother until I'm done w/ SMT IV as I know I won't touch it until.
