Question for yalls. I've got one night free before a friend comes into town and I get busy. I'd like to see if I can knock out a quick game tonight, and I figure early platformers might do the trick. So which sounds most feasible to beat from this list:

Castlevania 3
Contra
Kirby's Adventure that I'm halfway through
Metal Storm
Super Mario 3
Castlevania Bloodlines
Dynamite Headdy
Earthworm Jim (Gen, if it matters)
Sonic 2
Contra III
Cybernator
Metal Warriors
Super Castlevania IV
Super Star Wars
Super Empire Strikes Back
Yoshi's Island

So, uh, a lady friend?

Contra is a <30 minute game... If you're good at Contra that is.

Kirby you could wrap up easily.

Mario 3 is about 3 hours.

I'd avoid Yoshi's Island. It's a longer game with battery save.

Anyway, don't you play video games about 5 hours per night? You could probably swing any one of these depending on motivation.

I do spend about 4-5 hours a night, but I've still got some last minute pickup around the house. And it is a lady friend; I won a trip to go visit Wizards of the Coast and she was interested in coming along.

Cybernator isn't too long or too difficult, you might be able to manage that.

Kirby isn;t too hard either, but i think it's reasonably long. Depending what you mean by half way through it might be quite time consuming.

Sonic 2 is easily doable in a couple hours if you're very familar with it, but the last couple of stages can be pretty tough if you don't know them well. The final boss is a git too.

Go with Super Castlevania IV. It is a "remake" of the first game, and it is much much easier. Accordingly, your recent experience with Castlevania should make Castlevania IV a breeze. (Also, it is really fun.)

I did a double take there, haven't heard that insult in a very long time.

The last two stages always sucked the last of my lives and left me with a game over. I'm ashamed to say the only Sonic games on Genesis that I've beaten are CD and 3 (without Knuckles). I still love 2 but I can't finish it.

This made me think of the line in the movie Eurotrip. "Wow... you guys are like on a completely different level of swearing here."

Then I googled "git".
wikitionary wrote:'Git' is usually used as an insult, more severe than twit but less severe than a true profanity like wanker or arsehole

Don't feel too bad. The last couple levels of Sonic 2 are tough.

Oh how I love Kirby 64. I'll hit up the 3DS game (Triple Deluxe) once I finish it.

Is Rayman a good game/series? I have the first installment but have never played it.

The original Rayman is a solid, but very difficult and somewhat dated 2D platformer.

Rayman 2 is one of the very best 3D platformers (of any generation and on any system).

Rayman Origins is one of the very best 2D platformers (of any generation and on any system).

Rayman Legends is the sequel to of the very best 2D platformers, and I really, really need to play it since I just picked up the WiiU version a few weeks ago.

.....

2D platformers are my favorite genre, and I am a tremendous fan of Rayman Origins. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I was playing either Origins or Legends at a friend's house (don't remember which, but it was on his Wii U) and it has stages where you are constantly running and need to make various timed jumps to collect musical notes and not die in pits/to the thing chasing you. Doing so plays the level music. It was an amazing experience.
