I was away from the internet (yes, there's still places in the world that get no reception) for a few days, and Nintendo decided to launch this Direct on us.

So I just had the opportunity to see it.

1. Link's Awaking was my favorite 2D Zelda, so the announcement started amazing by the intro and then my heart sunk when I saw the visuals... I absolutely loathe that 'art style' and expected (but dreamed of full sprites which I knew we'd never get) something closer to A Link Between Worlds from a remake, rather than... This...

I haven't played DX yet, and I honestly find that far more appealing than this look, it almost looks like a demake to me. The last time I was this disgusted by a game's visuals was the mobile release of FFXV, but that wasn't a remake of one of my favorite Zelda games and I couldn't care less, this is heartbreaking...

2. Astral Chain looks like one of those games with a typical crappy anime story you couldn't care less about but amazing gameplay. Now, the whole two-players chained together bit makes me worry they will force co-op on us, but hopefully is optional and it translates well in single player. So I'll keep my eye on this one considering I can play it solo.

3. Nothing else truly stood out for me. Daemon X Machina was sold to me pretty early on, nothing changed on that front. The new Fire Emblem game looks great, but since I'm unfamiliar in the series it is highly unlikely I'll get acquainted with it with a new entry. Getting screwed over by DQXI 'Definitive' edition exclusive content, potentially remaining exclusive to the Switch, is nothing new and part of the course for modern gaming (I keep expecting Octopath Traveler Definitive Edition for other systems to be announced any day now).

So yeah, not that eventful, Metroid Prime Trilogy HD was again not announced but at least there's some more new stuff for the Switch to look out for, though I think since Smash released the system is missing that big title to wait for, by E3 Nintendo may have more for us though.

Maybe Nintendo things the rumored Prime Trilogy HD is big enough for an E3 reveal? Some have been wondering if they'd go a little extra mile beyond just scaling up the resolution and whatnot, not full on huge budget remaster work, but maybe something in the vein of the 3DS N64 Zelda facelifts... that would be awesome.

My guess is that the big reason as to why it has not been announced is because it isn't slated until the fall or winter. This direct was very specifically about the spring/summer season. My guess is e3 is going to be all about fall/winter being animal crossing, pokemon and metroid prime trilogy.

TBH, I think they pushed back MPT a year or more with 4 getting delayed.

Not sure how I feel about 3 Houses with the whole school thing. School settings in Japanese media are pretty low on my list of things I'm interested in.

Congrats! The best I can do is scrape the top 10, there's some absolute pros playing.

There's some new information on Astral Chain.

Looks like my co-op worries were unfounded, there's no mention of the game having co-op at all, though even if it does, it would be an afterthought given that they would be talking about something like that already (or even be pushing it front and center).

Consider my interest fully piqued then! I like the art style and the gameplay is even more appealing now with the whole synchronization spin to an action game.

Is nice to have another Switch exclusive to look forward to!

I'm more interested and excited for that than Bayonetta 3 even honestly. Just straight up looks like something Monolith-Soft could cook up and I love that!

Also can't forget Monolith-Soft is working on a new IP, the action adventure fantasy thing. Probably another Xenoblade too.

Switch looking stacked!

And I don't want to say much yet, but there's rumors flying around that Nintendo is reviving Scalebound to be an exclusive as well.

While it is possible that rumor is talking about Scalebound, I highly doubt it- Platinum is already stretched pretty wide. All the rumor states is that it was a "publicly cancelled game". There's hundreds of titles it could be. No idea what it is, but I'm not feeling its Scalebound.

I am hopeful for Monolith Softs fantasy RPG, but if it has Xenoblade combat, I'm out.

Welp, I did it. I bought a Switch. And Breath of the Wild.

Don't expect me to talk much for a few weeks...
