What are you playing?
Re: What are you playing?
Rocket League - downloaded it last night, and before I knew it, it was 3:30 in the morning...

Re: What are you playing?

Skullgirls is now on SteamOS! I've been playing that all morning. It's been a long time since I've played a fighting game, but I'm trying to get back into them. Pretty sweet arcade down the street from where I live.

At work I've been trying to 100% Project Diva during my breaks. This has been my go-to game to kill time on the bus.
Re: What are you playing?
Been playing Layer Section on Saturn. What a great shooter. I'm just doing 1 credit runs, improving my high score. I'm very late to the shmup party in general, and definitely late to the Layer Section party here on Racketboy. No one else has posted a high score since 2012. It's just me slowing climbing up the leaderboard
I am going to pick up The Raiden Project for PS1 in anticipation of the December Together Retro/Shmup of the Month. Who else is planning on playing this?

I'm planning on the PS1 version of Raiden too. I was contemplating the PC Engine version, but I've heard it's not the best port and it goes for about the same price as Raiden Project anyway.
I've been making it my goal to beat at least one game from my backlog every weekend from now until Christmas (with exceptions made if I'm busy with something else of course). I'm on a roll with it right now, as I beat 3 Game Gear games in the first week, Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush for Wii U in the second and Retro Game Challenge for DS in the third.
This weekend was the 4th weekend, and I've been playing and beating Pop Island Paperfield for DS and Stranded Kids for GBC.
Stranded Kids is pretty cool, but really a bit obtuse. I've gotten one ending, I'm gonna do my best to see if I can get all of them, as the game is pretty short.

Re: What are you playing?
There's a section of gameplay in Soma involving teleporting creatures that frustrated me so much I nearly gave up on the game. I pushed through it though, and started playing again last night. I got so engrossed in the story I ended up playing until 6:30 AM and had to force myself to go to bed. Soma is a disturbing, thought provoking and at times chilling game. It's not complex gameplaywise. You'd get a lot more in that department from a Resident Evil game, but the story, the environment, characters, etc. really, really pull you into its world. And the game doesn't hold your hand in any way and does very little to break the immersion so you have to pay attention, be observant and think about what you're doing to make progress. It would be a hard game to get back into I think if you stopped playing it for a long period of time.
I'm also playing Final Fantasy Type O, Remember Me, and Life is Strange. It's an odd coincidence that I ended up playing both of Dontnod's games in Remember Me and Life is Strange. Interestingly, both games have an emphasis on rewinding time.
Life is Strange has some pretty obnoxious characters and some bad dialog, but the story is very interesting and poses questions that I need to get the answers too. When I say the characters are annoying it's almost a complement because they are mostly teens and unlike a lot of games focusing on teens, Life is Strange actually makes them as annoying and obnoxious as many teens actually are in real life. Plus, many of the characters are hipsters and so of course they are going to be kind of annoying. Overall though, the game gets a thumbs up from me because I'm into the story and I like the time rewind mechanic, though after playing the first two episodes I would like to see the puzzles revolving around it to get a bit more interesting and challenging.
Final Fantasy Type O starts off strong and is surprisingly violent and dark for an FF game. The targeting system is a mess though, which is a shame as it's key to some combat elements
Beyond Two Souls is on its way to my house, first thing I'm playing that gets finished will be replaced by that game. I hear mixed opinions on the game, but my curiosity needs to be satisfied so whether it sucks or not I need to experience it myself. I'm on a real binge with these sorts of games lately with Life is Strange and my love of Until Dawn

Play it. You will love it. It wears its inspirations on its sleeves, but it is even better than A Link to the Past.

Id put it at equal footing. To me, it is if they made Link to the Past today.

Spending a LOT of time on NHL 16 recently, and my nephew is slowly getting me into playing Minecraft.

Fitting that they'd go with a metal sounding OST. It REALLY makes you wanna kick some ass

That game looks rad, and it is receiving decent reviews. Do you have any thoughts on it? (Also, is it kid friendly? There is no way my son - who is way into Transformers right now - would let me play this without him.)
