Well, if you think you can change them, keep at it. If you're they're not going to learn, I'd just stay away.

I had a friend that made bad decisions. Wasn't a spiteful person, but just did really dumb stuff all the time. They'd apologize and say they'd do better next time, but it would just happen again. They had a kid and proceeded to make terrible decisions that affected the kid. I tried to help, but couldn't. I just eventually gave up.

So my ex-"best friend" decided to cut me out of his life altogether after his new girlfriend of just 2 months fed him a boat-load of lies and mistranslated garbage. After 4 months of dating, they married on Xmas Eve and got matching tattoos. I find out today that they are most likely divorcing and now my ex "best bud" needs a tattoo removed..

When it eventually happens, (and it will - he did the same thing after his 1st marriage,) do I take him back as a friend?

...or should I just go ahead and make out a check for a generous contribution to a Pro-Gay/Lesbian Marriage Group - in his name?

Yeah. I think it may be time to let that one go. I can see it happening once, you know, the whole getting caught up in the moment type of deal. But it doesn't sound like this guy is the type to learn from his mistakes, making it very likely to happen again.

I say make out the check. And before you send the check out don't forget to add "Because God knows MY relationships don't work" in the memo line.

Definitely don't want to change him. Just thinking about it with the whole regard to our past. We were close for 18 years, (since 5th grade.) Still, as I'm going to be genuinely starting a family of my own in the next few years, it's probably best to just keep as much negative 'what-have-you' away as possible..

I know what ya meant.. I'd never try to change anybody personally, and he's done so many stupid things over the years that I gave up on that a long time ago..
