I loved Pink Flamingos, so I will look into the other ones, thanks man! you usually give me so pretty good suggestionsREPO Man wrote:Uh...yeah.Snickerd00dle wrote:Pink Flamingos- uh...wow
Uh...check out Female Trouble. Then Desperate Living (now, THAT'S gonzo!). Then you can either go on with the rest of John Waters' films in chronological order OR skip ahead to Cecil B. Demented and A Dirty Shame, but then you'd miss out on Hairspray. Cry-Baby's good, but not Hairspray good.
Also, check out his one-man show "This Filthy World". He's got some awesome stories, like when he talked about this one girl he saw at the supermarket. She was very angelic-looking and her mother just screamed "GET OVER HERE, SHIT-ASS!".
What was the last movie you've seen?

Actually, that's how it was in the book. Seriously. The Coen Bros. version was actually extremely accurate to what all happens, down to Maddy being an absolute bitch (some of her scenes were line for line from the original text). What I do like is that the changes they made only added to the film, particularly its humor. That entire scene with the doctor? Not in the original, but it helped keep the humor that they had successfully cultivated. You're also not the first person I've heard say that the ending was a let down, but I just want you to know that it's not necessarily to be blamed on the Coens.vash23n wrote:Saw True Grit tonight and it was pretty damned good! Bridges either shines in roles or annoys the hell out of me (such as in Fisher King) as he can go a little over the top and seem unnatural (not as bad, but kind of like Mel Gibson does lately since he lost his mind). He was pretty unbelievable though and very amusing. The little girl who played Maddy was a bit of a pain in the ass, but her character was written that way (and she seems not to have changed once an adult) so I guess that is a success. Mat Damon's character was a bit annoying as well and I wonder if Josh Brolan would have done better in the role. So Bridges basically carried the rest of the cast. metaphorical connection at the very end between the Pony who everyone doubted could do a horses work and Bridges who every one doubted could do the work of a real Marshall or Ranger. Just seemed weird that they threw it in at the end. Like everything was going along great, an awesome western, and then in the last five minutes the Coen Brothers said "we better throw in something artistic and moving" and then the movie was over, the credits accompanied by one of the most annoying songs I have ever heard (sounded like Dolly Parton). Like... wait what just happened? So it's over and... strange. Or maybe the Coens didn't believe that the audience figured out from the very beginning that the whole movie was about characters who everyone said could not do it, doing it so they tried to some everything up in the last five minutes. So if you want to see it you will enjoy it, just be ready for an ending that seems out of place.
Admittedly I found that ending song extremely jarring too.

Wow that is good to know. I am not interested enough in the western genre to have read the book so I was not aware of this tidbit. I also never saw the original because I am not a John Wayne fan (no one shoot me please, pilgrams). I would be interested to hear how it compares to the original.Ack wrote:Actually, that's how it was in the book. Seriously. Funny as hell! Also look for a young Vincent D'Onofrio and a pre-"Toxic Avenger" Mark Torgl (aka Melvin Ferd).
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

Yet another comedy gem from the 1980s. God, the movies of today suck.

Also, Must admit, that is a pretty bad ass Terminator 2 teaser trailer. Creating the cybernetic AHNALD.

Machete, just hilarious in every way
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

Just finished watching a Norwegian film by the name of The Troll Hunter. Very good watch if you don't mind subtitles (or understand Norwegian). A lot like cloverfield, albeit done much better.

Well, after seeing it shown on tv dozens of times I finally decided to sit down and actually watch Kung Fu panda from beginning to end. I really enjoyed it, though somehow the movie felt slightly rushed. Maybe they edited some stuff out because it was on tv. It just felt like the ending came a little too quickly. I still really like it though. I love those loser underdog becomes a hero type stories and I have always loved martial arts movies so it was a given I would like this light hearted take on one
The way the story plays out actually reminds me a little bit of Kung Fu Hustle. The five badass warriors(actually it was 3 in Kung Fu Hustle)the battle between the main villain and the master(or masters plural in Kung Fu Hustle)and the eventual awakening of the loveable loser's true power in the end for the big climax battle against the villain. Also loved panda's very drunken master style fighting(gotta love Jackie Chan)

That was a fun movie, and How to Train Your Dragon was even better
